Summary Of Position

The Mechanical Designer 1 designs tooling and equipment to be used in the manufacture of large carbon fiber parts and assemblies for aircraft production. They will provide tooling concepts, models, and designs from basic engineering surfaces and customer Statement of Work.

Essential Functions

  • Create tool designs from customer supplied part models and specifications
  • Load models and engineering, interrogate models, create tooling surfaces
  • Generate and supply data for off-site fabrication
  • Attend and provide support in design reviews with customers
  • Freehand concept sketches to quickly communicate and develop designs
  • Internally interface with design leads and manufacturing departments, including quality and inspection
  • Create and release models and drawings concurrent with project build philosophy
  • Any additional duties as reasonably assigned by management

Required Skills, Education, And Experience

Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful job performance will be considered. Typical qualifications would be:

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or similar field, with less than 3 years of experience

Familiarity with CAD software (Catia, NX, Solidworks, etc)Clear written and oral communicationAbility to work individually and in a team environmentThis position must meet Export Control Compliance requirements, therefore a "US Person" as defined by 22.C.F.R. is requiredRequired to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense Secret Security Clearance for the entire duration of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or similar field, with less than 3 years of experience
  • 3 years of experience with CATIA V5 or V6
  • Knowledge of manufacturing practices, fabrication
  • Internship in similar field
  • Knowledge of materials (metallic and composite)
  • Ability to free hand sketches to quickly communicate and develop designs

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

  • None

Travel Requirements

Most travel is primarily local during the business day. Some projects may require travel out of the area and overnight stays.

  • May access and work in the manufacturing plant
  • While performing the duties of this job, employee may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes and airborne particles
  • The employee may be exposed to vibration
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
  • May be required to travel to other site locations during the work day
  • May be required to work weekends to meet department and business demands
  • Work with safe manufacturing processes and understand that eyewear is mandatory in the manufacturing area.
  • Knows that safety shoes are recommended in the manufacturing area

  • Must be able to frequently walk and stand for short periods of time
  • Must be able to lift and move up to 35lbs, occasionally lift and move objects up to 50lbs.
