Join Our Mission. Change Lives.

Renewal Falls Recovery Center, in partnership with Ascension Recovery Services, is seeking an experienced and compassionate Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join our multidisciplinary team in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

This is an opportunity to practice meaningful medicine in a setting where your clinical expertise can have a direct impact on individuals working toward recovery from substance use disorders and co-occurring conditions.

Our Nurse Practitioner will have the opportunity to practice with a high degree of clinical autonomy while working alongside an experienced interdisciplinary team of nursing, clinical, medical, and operational professionals.

Whether you already have addiction medicine experience or are an experienced provider interested in expanding your practice into behavioral health and substance use treatment, we want to hear from you.

Why This Opportunity Stands Out

  • Meaningful clinical autonomy in Iowa
  • Flexible full-time schedule focused on work-life balance
  • Collaborative interdisciplinary medical and clinical team
  • Opportunity to help shape medical services within a growing recovery program
  • Mission-driven work with the ability to make a measurable difference in patients' lives
  • Opportunity to expand your expertise in addiction medicine, withdrawal management, and medications for substance use disorders
  • Supportive leadership committed to clinical excellence, patient safety, and professional development

What You'll Do

The Nurse Practitioner serves as a key member of the medical team and provides comprehensive medical assessment, treatment, and ongoing management for adults receiving substance use disorder treatment.

Responsibilities include:

  • Perform admission evaluations, comprehensive medical histories, physical examinations, and ongoing patient assessments.
  • Assess and manage acute and chronic medical conditions within the scope of the program.
  • Evaluate patients experiencing substance withdrawal and provide appropriate medical management.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans based on each patient's medical and recovery needs.
  • Prescribe, monitor, and manage medications, including medications used for withdrawal management and Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT/MOUD), when clinically appropriate and within scope of practice.
  • Monitor patient response to treatment and adjust medical plans as clinically indicated.
  • Review laboratory results, diagnostic testing, medication profiles, and relevant outside medical records.
  • Identify changes in patient condition and provide timely intervention, consultation, or referral to a higher level of care when appropriate.
  • Collaborate closely with nursing, clinical therapists, case managers, physicians, and other members of the interdisciplinary treatment team.
  • Participate in treatment team meetings and contribute to coordinated treatment and discharge planning.
  • Educate patients regarding medications, medical conditions, recovery, wellness, and risk reduction.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and clinically appropriate documentation in the electronic health record.
  • Support medication safety, quality improvement initiatives, Joint Commission standards, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2.
  • Participate in established on-call coverage based on the facility's medical coverage model.

Who We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • Master's or Doctoral degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Current national Nurse Practitioner board certification appropriate to the population served.
  • Current Iowa ARNP license in good standing or ability to obtain Iowa licensure prior to start date.
  • Current DEA registration and applicable Iowa controlled-substance prescribing authority, or ability to obtain prior to assuming prescribing responsibilities.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Strong clinical assessment, diagnostic, critical-thinking, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to practice with appropriate independence while collaborating effectively with an interdisciplinary team.
  • Strong communication skills and a commitment to respectful, patient-centered care.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) or Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner (AGNP) certification.
  • Experience in addiction medicine, behavioral health, withdrawal management, residential treatment, primary care, urgent care, emergency medicine, psychiatry, or a related setting.
  • Experience treating opioid and alcohol use disorders.
  • Experience prescribing medications used in the treatment of substance use disorders.
  • Knowledge of ASAM criteria.
  • Experience working in a Joint Commission-accredited healthcare environment.

Previous addiction medicine experience is preferred, but it is not required for a clinically strong Nurse Practitioner who is passionate about the mission and interested in developing expertise in this area.

The Right Person for This Role

We are looking for someone who combines strong clinical judgment with compassion and accountability.

Our ideal Nurse Practitioner is comfortable caring for individuals with complex medical, behavioral health, and social needs and understands that recovery does not always follow a straight line.

  • Communicate clearly with nursing and clinical teams.
  • Enjoy practicing with autonomy while remaining highly collaborative.
  • Are comfortable working in a growing environment where processes continue to evolve.
  • Believe strongly in evidence-based treatment and multiple pathways to recovery.
