We are seeking an experienced and mission-driven Clinical Director to lead our clinical team, ensure exceptional patient care, and help advance our culture of excellence.


As Clinical Director, you will play a vital leadership role in developing clinical staff, maintaining regulatory compliance, supporting program growth, and ensuring delivery of high-quality behavioral healthcare services.


Position Summary

The Clinical Director provides leadership and oversight of all clinical programming and behavioral health services at the Iowa City facility. This position is responsible for ensuring quality patient care, supervising clinical staff, maintaining regulatory compliance, supporting census growth, and fostering a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.


The Clinical Director partners closely with the Executive Director, Medical Director, Director of Nursing, and corporate leadership to ensure clinical excellence while supporting Thrive Now Recovery Centers' mission and strategic objectives.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Clinical Leadership

  • Provide leadership, supervision, and support for all clinical team members.
  • Ensure delivery of high-quality, evidence-based behavioral health and substance use disorder treatment services.
  • Foster a culture focused on patient-centered care, clinical excellence, and continuous improvement.
  • Develop and mentor clinicians through coaching, supervision, and professional development.

Clinical Operations

  • Oversee daily clinical operations including caseload management, group schedules, treatment planning, and documentation.
  • Ensure timely completion of biopsychosocial assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, discharge planning, and clinical documentation.
  • Monitor patient outcomes and implement quality improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with nursing, medical, admissions, and operations teams to ensure coordinated patient care.

Staff Supervision & Development

  • Recruit, hire, onboard, supervise, and evaluate clinical staff.
  • Conduct regular supervision sessions in accordance with Iowa licensing requirements.
  • Support employee engagement, retention, and performance management.
  • Address employee performance concerns through coaching and corrective action when appropriate.

Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with Joint Commission standards, Iowa HHS regulations, 42 CFR Part 2, HIPAA, and company policies.
  • Maintain survey readiness through routine audits and corrective action planning.
  • Monitor clinical documentation quality and regulatory compliance.
  • Participate in accreditation surveys and state inspections.

Quality & Performance Improvement

  • Monitor clinical KPIs including documentation completion, patient outcomes, census, patient satisfaction, and length of stay.
  • Participate in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) initiatives.
  • Analyze data and implement action plans to improve clinical outcomes.

Collaboration & Leadership

  • Participate as a member of the facility leadership team.
  • Partner with Executive Director and corporate leadership on strategic initiatives.
  • Assist with program development and expansion.
  • Promote collaboration across all departments.

Other Duties

  • Participate in on-call rotation as assigned.
  • Support organizational initiatives and special projects.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Required

  • Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, Marriage & Family Therapy, or related behavioral health field.
  • Current unrestricted Iowa independent clinical license required (LISW, LMHC, LMFT, or Psychologist).
  • Minimum three (3) years of behavioral health or substance use disorder treatment experience.
  • Minimum two (2) years of clinical leadership or supervisory experience.
  • Experience supervising licensed and unlicensed clinical staff.
  • Strong knowledge of ASAM criteria, co-occurring disorders, trauma-informed care, motivational interviewing, and evidence-based treatment.
  • Knowledge of Joint Commission standards and regulatory compliance.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.

Preferred

  • Previous experience in residential substance use disorder treatment.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary clinical teams.
  • Experience with electronic health records.
  • CADC or additional addiction certifications.
  • Experience with quality improvement initiatives.
