- Establishes all bus routes, utilizing computerized bus routing applications where they are appropriate.
- Ensures the development and maintenance of bus turnarounds.
- Verifies mileage data sheets submitted by each school principal.
- Adjusts changes in mileage as required.
- Presents pre-service and in-service driver education and safety programs.
- Supplies each bus driver with current bulletins, rules, and regulations by the State Department of Education and the Ascension Parish School Board.
- Provides transportation for students with special transportation needs in keeping with federal and state laws.
- Provides emergency and accident assistance to bus drivers; in case of a bus accident, ensures that all state and parish regulations are followed.
- Establishes a system of emergency and preventive maintenance for all buses owned and operated by the Ascension Parish Public School System.
- Provides for periodic bus inspections to assess their condition for safety of operation.
- Involves bus drivers and students in safety programs.
- Prepares for submission an annual budget for transportation expenditures; periodically compares actual expenditures with those from the approved budget and requests budget revisions as necessary.
- Implements a process for tracking all expenditures related to student transportation, and makes recommendations for cost savings and increased efficiency.
- Provides data and projections that will facilitate long-term planning for the transportation department.
- Provides courteous and prompt service to all internal and external customers including students, parents, co-workers, etc. Schedules and/or attends conferences with parents. Prioritizes and addresses requests and assignments in a professional manner to develop cooperative relationships and to ensure that student and employee records confidentiality is assured.
- Identifies opportunities and recommends methods to improve service, work processes and financial performance, e.g. expense management. Assists in the implementation of quality improvement initiatives.
- Assists co-workers in the completion of tasks and assignments to ensure continuity of service. Orients new co-workers and actively supports teamwork throughout the school system.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the proper authority.

II. SUMMARY OF POSITION’S PURPOSE
Ensures a system of safe and efficient transportation which allows each student to participate in the curricular and extra-curricular activities offered by the school.
III. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
A. EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION – Bachelor’s degree.
B. EXPERIENCE – Five years of successful professional experience in the area of school transportation or fleet management.
C. OTHER REQUIREMENTS – Additional requirements as the Board may establish.
