Description
The Assistant Branch Librarian acts to support the Branch Librarian to ensure the successful operation of an individual library branch. They are for responsible for coordinating and supervising activities, staff, maintenance, programs, etc. at the branch level, and assuming responsibility for the Library branch in the Branch Manager’s absence. Work requires planning, problem solving, prioritizing, supervising, and training.
Examples of duties include:
- Assists Branch Librarian in performance of duties.
- Ensure that all policies, procedures, programs, and projects are implemented and adhered to in all cases.
- Set a positive and productive example of work habits, communication, and cooperation between all staff members.
- Supervises operational routines; lays out and assigns work for the branch staff; gives team on-the-job instructions as needed; is responsible for managing student workers.
- Assists in maintenance of statistical and financial records; bookkeeping; monthly reports, weekly reports, maintaining fine fund box, petty cash box, etc.
- Assists with reference and book selection; aids in the best use of library materials; acting as readers' advisor; making recommendations concerning book selection.
- Assists with implementing promotional, publicity, special, and informational projects.
- Performs reference duties, etc.; handling any difficult situations with the public and adjusting local complaints; inter-library loan; reference duties; circulation duties; Please note: The professional at the branch level is considered a vital part of the reference staff and is expected to work reference during "key" periods.
- Ensures that the library building and grounds are kept in good and attractive condition, and that building maintenance is tended to.
- Assists with supplies.
- Assists with scheduling.
- Assists with planning and arranging displays.
- Assists with programming.
- Assists with outreach.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
A master's degree in library and information science from an ALA accredited library school is required.
Salary : $55,994 - $73,486
