Position Summary:
The Adult Services Librarian is a system-wide leadership role responsible for developing, coordinating, and evaluating adult programs across all library branches. This position supervises the Adult Services Staff, oversees adult programming in specialized library learning spaces like makerspaces, teaching kitchens, and gardens, and leads grant writing efforts to support innovative and inclusive adult services. The librarian collaborates with branch staff, community partners, and administrative leadership to ensure high-quality programming that meets the diverse needs of the residents of Ascension Parish.
Key Responsibilities:
System-Wide Program Leadership
- Coordinate adult programming across all branches, ensuring consistency, quality, and alignment with strategic goals.
- Coordinate and plan Adult Summer Reading Program.
- Develop annual programming calendars and thematic initiatives in collaboration with branch staff.
- Review and approve program proposals, budgets, and evaluations submitted by branch teams.
Staff Supervision & Collaboration
- Supervise the Adult Services Staff, providing mentorship and performance management.
- Serve as a resource and advisor to branch librarians and staff involved in adult programming.
Grant Writing & Resource Development
- Research, write, and manage grant proposals to fund adult services, literacy initiatives, and special programs.
- Track grant outcomes, prepare reports, and ensure compliance with funding requirements.
Community Engagement & Partnerships
- Build and maintain partnerships with local organizations and service providers to enhance programming.
- Represent the library system at public events, forums, and collaborative meetings.
Evaluation & Reporting
- Collect and analyze data on program attendance and community feedback.
- Prepare regular reports for library administration.
Requirements
Required:
- Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited program.
- Minimum of three years of experience in adult services or programming in a public library setting.
- Demonstrated experience in program coordination, grant writing, and staff supervision.
- Strong leadership, communication, and project management skills.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to travel between branches.
- Ability to transport up to 25 pounds.
