Responsibilities
- Oversee daily fund accounting activities, including ledger maintenance, journal entries, and account reconciliations using advanced accounting software such as PeopleSoft, Xero, Sage, or QuickBooks.
- Prepare and interpret detailed financial statements, reports, and analyses in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and relevant securities law regulations.
- Conduct balance sheet reconciliations, bank reconciliations, and account analysis to ensure data accuracy and integrity across multiple accounts such as accounts payable, receivable, and payroll.
- Manage regulatory reporting requirements related to securities law compliance and governmental accounting standards while ensuring timely submissions.
- Lead month-end and year-end closing processes with precision; review financial reports for accuracy; assist in audit preparations including supporting documentation for external auditors.
- Support internal controls by implementing SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley Act) compliance procedures; mentor junior team members in technical accounting practices and best practices in financial management.
- Perform cash flow analysis, budgeting support, and forecasting to aid strategic planning efforts; analyze financial concepts to optimize fund performance.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field; CPA or equivalent certification preferred.
- Extensive experience in corporate accounting with a strong background in financial statement preparation and financial report writing.
- Proficiency with accounting software such as PeopleSoft, Xero, Sage, QuickBooks, Quicken or similar platforms; advanced skills in Microsoft Excel required.
- Deep understanding of GAAP principles, double entry bookkeeping, accrual accounting, and technical accounting standards including securities law and nonprofit/governmental accounting practices.
- Knowledge of regulatory compliance including SOX controls; experience with tax regulations such as Wills, Trusts & Estate Law is a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze financial data critically; excellent skills in account reconciliation, journal entries, bank reconciliation and general ledger management.
- Strong mentoring skills with a proactive approach to team development; ability to communicate complex financial concepts clearly and effectively.
