The Regulatory Practice is Ascendient’s largest service line. We enjoy a national reputation for producing flawless, timely Certificate of Need (CON) applications and defending them in court when necessary. We also support nonprofit hospitals with developing Community Health Needs Assessments (CHNA) that align services with community needs and differentiate clients from their competitors. Many clients have relied on us for decades, and new clients are constantly being added.
The Healthcare Consultant - Writer will work within a team to deliver services for Ascendient’s clients planning expansions, new services, new facilities, and other projects, playing an active role in writing compelling narratives for CONs and CHNAs that comply with regulatory requirements. The Healthcare Consultant - Writer will work directly with Ascendient’s most senior staff while they learn the industry. The Writer will contribute directly to client engagements via the development of both descriptive and persuasive narrative and clear and concise presentations and reports using Microsoft PowerPoint and Word.
Work will be completed for a broad range of healthcare clients, including hospitals and health systems, freestanding facilities (imaging centers, ambulatory surgery centers, emergency departments), health departments, nursing homes, retirement communities, and home health/hospice agencies. This position may require periodic travel to client sites to collect and share information.
Important Note: For the first three months of employment, the Writer will be required to work from Ascendient's Chapel Hill, NC office three days per week. Following this introductory/training period, the Writer position can be remote, with 10% travel to client sites and Ascendient's Chapel Hill office expected.

POSITION DESCRIPTION
Specific responsibilities include:
- Clearly and concisely writing compelling content for Regulatory Practice deliverables
- Effectively managing time to ensure deliverables meet fixed external and internal deadlines
- Keeping project manager(s) regularly apprised of the progress and status of all activities
- Staying abreast of emerging industry trends, legislation, and changes in the regulatory environment that will impact our approach to developing successful CON applications

QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Journalism, or commensurate education required; 1-2 years relevant experience in writing within a healthcare setting or consulting role a plus
- Experience and/or strong interest in healthcare and consulting
- Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with colleagues
- Experience with and working knowledge of Microsoft Word and PowerPoint
- Demonstrated experience with projects that require both attention to detail and an understanding of the “bigger picture”

The Writer is a full-time position with a Base Salary range of $71,000 - $93,000 per year. Additionally, Ascendient offers a comprehensive benefits package and generous leave policies.
