Shelter Veterinarian
Position Summary
We are seeking a compassionate, skilled Veterinarian to join our team in shelter medicine. This is a part-time, 32-hour/week role (working M, T, Th, F) with full-time benefits! The Veterinarian will oversee medical care for shelter and foster cats, perform surgeries (especially spay/neuter), provide diagnostics and treatment, and help develop medical policies while working closely with staff and volunteers.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality shelter medicine, including wellness exams, diagnostics, treatment, and preventive care for cats and kittens
- Perform surgeries, including high-volume spay/neuter, and other procedures as needed
- Monitor anesthesia, post-op recovery, and overall animal health
- Prescribe and administer medications; maintain accurate medical records
- Train and supervise veterinary staff and volunteers in best practices in shelter medicine
- Assist in developing and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for medical care, intake, and adoption
- Participate in community outreach programs, clinics, and adoption events
- Collaborate with shelter leadership to support organizational goals
Qualifications
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree
- Valid veterinary license in the state
- Strong surgical, diagnostic, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and leadership abilities
- Compassion for cats of all types (feral, stray, sick, injured)
- Experience in shelter medicine is a plus, but not required
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and handle cats and kittens of varying sizes, bend, stoop, and walk daily
- Ability to perform strenuous manual labor and stand for long periods while performing work requiring concentration and manual dexterity
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
