JOB SUMMARY:

ASCEND’s Billing Specialist is responsible for submitting AoD and Mental Health Services claims to insurance companies and payers such as Medicaid and Medicare. The Billing Specialist position is critical to the financial health of the organization. The Billing Specialist is responsible for the timely submission of service claims to insurance companies. This position is responsible for various tasks requiring data analysis, in-depth evaluation, and sound judgment. Daily duties will include maintaining billing software, appealing denied claims, and recording late payments. This position requires excellent written and verbal communication skills, as communicating with clients and various insurance companies will form a large part of the job.

DUTIES:

1. Prepare and submit billing data and service claims to insurance companies weekly by Wednesdays.

2. Check eligibility and verify benefits for treatment monthly.

3. Identifying and billing secondary or tertiary insurances.

4. Follow up on missed payments and resolve financial discrepancies. Conduct billing reconciliation monthly.

5. Examine patient/client claims for accuracy and request any missing information.

6. Investigate and appeal any denied claims on Claim MD weekly.

7. Maintain billing software by updating rate changes, spreadsheets, and current reports.

8. Write thorough reports on billing activity with precise and reliable data weekly.

9. Attend all necessary billing webinars and correspond any billing changes to Program Director

10. Manage SFS/Self-pay documentation and tracking.

11. Other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor or Executive Director.

12. Keep up with credentialing with insurances and MCO's

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS:

1. Bachelor’s degree in Business, Health Care Administration, Accounting, or relevant field (preferred).

Must pass a background check as described in the policy and procedure manual when working in any office where children/adolescents are treated

3. Proven experience as a billing specialist preferred

4. Solid understanding of billing software and electronic medical records

5. Knowledge of accounting and bookkeeping procedures

6. Knowledge of AoD and Behavioral Health Terminology

7. Must have the ability to multitask and manage time effectively

8. Excellent written and verbal communication skills

9. Outstanding problem-solving and organizational abilities

10. High degree of attention to detail and trustworthiness required

11. Results driven

12. Excellent knowledge of MS Office

2. Is knowledgeable about the details of specific work areas for which responsible.

3. Identifies and solves problems quickly in consultation with the Executive Director.

4. Completes assignments as agreed or reports delays immediately to the Executive Director.

5. Maintains confidentiality with the Executive Director.

6. Exhibits complete professionalism and ethical standards in all aspects of work assignments.

7. Performs all duties in an efficient and timely manner.

8. Treats clients, visitors, and team members with compassion and dignity.

9. Exhibits professionalism in the areas of work habits, attitude, behavior, and appearance.

10. Treats all data, client, and staff information with total confidentiality.

PHYSICAL DEMAND:

Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other Sedentary criteria are met. SSR 83-10 further defines Sedentary work as requiring about 6 hours of sitting and no more than 2 hours of standing or walking in an 8-hour workday. No significant stooping is usually required.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour
