Job Description
ASC A Program is seeking a strong High School Writing Instructor to teach students in grades 9–12 in a rigorous, supportive academic setting. Our writing program helps students strengthen the analytical composition skills needed to excel in high school classes, perform well on standardized assessments, and prepare for the demands of college-level writing.
In this role, you will work with students on higher-level writing skills including text analysis, essay organization, argument development, clarity, sophistication of expression, and revision. ASC’s writing workshops emphasize polished, thoughtful writing and meaningful engagement with texts, and students receive support through both small-group instruction and individualized teacher feedback.
ASC has served students and families in Boston and surrounding communities for many years and is committed to providing a supportive, challenging, and stimulating learning environment.
Responsibilities
- Teach writing to high school students in grades 9–12
- Lead students through analytical and expository writing assignments
- Help students develop stronger thesis statements, organization, textual analysis, evidence use, and revision habits
- Provide clear, actionable feedback on student writing
- Support students in producing polished, sophisticated essays
- Differentiate instruction for students with varying skill levels
- Maintain a structured, engaging, and academically serious classroom environment
- Collaborate with ASC staff on curriculum implementation and class expectations
- Communicate professionally with administration regarding student progress and classroom needs
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; degree in English, Writing, Education, History, or a related field preferred
- Strong command of grammar, composition, and analytical writing
- Experience teaching or tutoring high school students
- Ability to explain writing concepts clearly and effectively
- Strong classroom presence and professional communication skills
- Reliable, organized, and prepared
Preferred Qualifications
- Classroom teaching experience at the high school level
- Experience teaching literary analysis, expository writing, or college-preparatory writing
- Familiarity with helping students strengthen writing for academic classes and standardized assessments
- Master’s degree or teaching certification preferred, but not required
