The Superintendent Electrical (Fixed Plant) is responsible for leading all electrical, instrumentation, and process control maintenance activities for the Ray Fixed Plant. This position provides leadership to supervisors and craftspeople to safely execute maintenance strategies that maximize equipment reliability, plant availability, and cost effectiveness while supporting production objectives.


The Electrical Superintendent is responsible for developing a high-performing team through coaching, accountability, and continuous improvement. This role works closely with Operations, Reliability, Engineering, Planning, Supply Chain, and contractors to ensure maintenance activities are executed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with business priorities.

The position is expected to support the standardization of electrical maintenance practices and contribute to future organizational growth across the Fixed Plant as business needs evolve.


Essential Functions

  • Provide visible safety leadership and promote a culture where all work is completed safely and in compliance with MSHA, OSHA, company policies, and environmental regulations.
  • Lead, coach, mentor, and develop Electrical and Instrumentation Supervisors while building a culture of accountability, ownership, and continuous improvement.
  • Establish clear expectations for safety, work quality, planning, scheduling, and execution.
  • Ensure electrical maintenance activities are effectively planned, coordinated, prioritized, and executed to maximize equipment availability and reliability.
  • Coordinate major shutdowns, outages, and capital projects while minimizing production impact.
  • Partner with Operations, Reliability, Engineering, and Planning to develop maintenance strategies that improve equipment performance and reduce recurring failures.
  • Review equipment failures, conduct root cause analyses, and implement sustainable corrective actions.
  • Drive planning and scheduling compliance while ensuring effective utilization of labor, contractors, and materials.
  • Manage department budgets, monitor maintenance costs, and identify opportunities for continuous improvement and cost reduction.
  • Ensure compliance with OEM recommendations, electrical standards, engineering specifications, and applicable codes.
  • Oversee contractor performance, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to required quality standards.
  • Support the development and execution of preventive, predictive, and condition-based maintenance programs.
  • Monitor department performance through key performance indicators (KPIs), including safety performance, equipment availability, schedule compliance, PM compliance, backlog management, and maintenance costs.
  • Promote effective communication and collaboration between Maintenance, Operations, Engineering, Reliability, Planning, and Supply Chain.
  • Ensure compliance with all company policies and procedures, including safety, environmental, confidentiality, and the Code of Conduct.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to improve reliability, work processes, employee development, and operational performance.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to build, motivate, and develop high-performing teams.
  • Strong understanding of electrical maintenance principles within a heavy industrial, mining, or mineral processing environment.
  • Working knowledge of high-voltage power distribution systems, substations, switchgear, motor control centers (MCCs), variable frequency drives (VFDs), instrumentation, and process control systems.
  • Experience with PLC programming and troubleshooting, including Allen-Bradley, Modicon, GE Proficy, or similar industrial control platforms.
  • Understanding of industrial communication networks, including Ethernet/IP, ControlNet, Data Highway Plus, serial communications, fiber optics, and related technologies.
  • Experience with maintenance planning and scheduling processes.
  • Knowledge of reliability-centered maintenance, preventive maintenance, predictive maintenance, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Ability to analyze maintenance and operational data, identify trends, establish priorities, and make sound business decisions.
  • Strong organizational, communication, coaching, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Outlook, Word, and Project.
  • Experience with SAP or other Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) preferred.
  • Experience with Kronos or similar workforce management systems is preferred.
  • Knowledge of applicable electrical codes, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with employees, contractors, and leadership at all organizational levels.

Environmental, Health & Safety

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable MSHA, OSHA, environmental, and company safety requirements.
  • Complete all required safety and environmental training.
  • Promote hazard recognition, risk assessment, and continuous improvement in workplace safety.
  • Lead by example in creating a culture where safety is a core organizational value.


Required Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology, or a related field preferred. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
  • Certified Electrical Apprenticeship, Technical Degree, or equivalent industrial electrical training preferred.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of electrical maintenance experience in heavy industrial, mining, mineral processing, power generation, or similar operations.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of demonstrated leadership experience supervising maintenance personnel.
  • Experience leading maintenance shutdowns, managing contractor performance, budgeting, and maintenance planning.
  • Knowledge of high-voltage power systems, industrial process control systems, and modern reliability practices is strongly preferred.
