Shift Differentials
The Unit Secretary performs a variety of clerical, receptionist and administrative support functions for the nursing unit/department. They act as key liaison for the unit, supporting internal and external communication with a variety of people including patients, families, visitors, physicians and coworkers.

Salary range: $19.27 - $26.50
Shift Differentials
- $1.21 extra for working between 3:00pm-11:00pm
- $2.05 extra for working between 11:00pm-7:00am
- $1.05 extra for working on weekend shifts
The Unit Secretary performs a variety of clerical, receptionist and administrative support functions for the nursing unit/department. They act as key liaison for the unit, supporting internal and external communication with a variety of people including patients, families, visitors, physicians and coworkers.
As a Unit Secretary you will have the opportunity to:
- Perform administrative tasks such as order entry, placing reports into patient’s medical records, assisting with chart preparation for admissions, patient transfers, surgery and other related duties.
- Demonstrate strong computer skills using different software applications
- Facilitate workflow in the nursing units, communication of information and transcription of physicians’ orders under the supervision of an RN
- Promote patient safety and comfort and actively participate in patient satisfaction
- Demonstrate advanced Responsive Observations knowledge base in practice of care
- Provide excellent communication between staff and patients
Education
- Associate’s degree in business, healthcare, or related field is preferred
- Previous clerical experience providing knowledge of office procedures, office equipment and computer programs is required
- Previous experience in a clinical capacity within the nursing unit that provides knowledge of unit policies, procedures and unit-specific clerical training is highly desired
