Additional Position Details: FTE: 0.5 (20 hours per week | Part Time | This schedule was recently changed to reflect the coverage needed. This will be a weekend schedule with 10-hour shifts every Saturday and Sunday from 6:30am to 5:30pm. Includes extra pay for weekend and swing hours as noted below.
Salary: The typical starting range for this position is $18.68 to $23.35 an hour. Increase based on qualifications and years of relevant experience. Plus, you will earn extra shift differentials for swing, night, and weekend hours:
- $1.10 extra for working between 3:00pm - 11:00pm
- $1.95 extra for working between 11:01pm and 7:00am
- $0.94 extra for working weekends
Position Summary
The Communications Operator is responsible for operating the telephone communication center between the public and patients, physicians, and personnel. Typical duties may include answering a multi-line phone, taking messages and paging personnel, triaging emergency calls and routing them to appropriate personnel according to departmental and/or organizational policy. They may also monitor or operate other communication and emergency systems.
Position Qualifications
Education
- Associate’s degree, preferred.
Experience
- Prior related experience (preferably switchboard/ communications operator experience) in a fast-paced, stressful environment (such as a large acute care facility, emergency services setting, etc.) is required.
Unit Specific Additional Requirement: For the Emergencies Services department, at least 1 year of Communication Center experience routing incoming calls or emergency dispatch experience is required.
