Role
We are currently seeking a designer and researcher with a deep interest in or experience with Foresight and strategy. The role will support our foresight advisory projects, internal and external strategy implementation, client engagement programs, and thought leadership activities. The successful candidate will be based in our Foresight team in Los Angeles. This is an entry-level and junior role, depending on experience. The role offers a significant opportunity to shape Arup's future business, client engagement, and strategy implementation.
The successful candidate will have a deep interest in knowledge of foresight, futures studies, and strategy. They will be self-motivated, organised, with the ability to multi-task and a desire to learn. Experience in working within the built environment sector will be of significant benefit.
Responsibilities:
- Work with mid-level and senior Foresight team members globally and within the Americas region to deliver foresight projects with a strong focus on foresight for business- and market strategy
- Support in project management and internal/external engagements in support of Foresight initiatives and activities
- Understand, support, and aid in delivering initiatives for strategic transformation as set out by the Arup Group Strategy and in support of the objectives of Arup University
- Supporting in planning, preparation and delivery of internal and external workshops and engagements, ranging from small roundtable discussions to wider public/client engagements
- Support with delivery and communication strategic reports, plans and frameworks for Foresight and other parts of the firm
- Work with the other faculties of Arup University to ensure strong strategic alignment and integration, including our Learning, Research, Skills, and Knowledge functions
- Engage with relevant Arup Businesses and Services to understand strategic priorities and to ensure that the activities of Foresight and Arup University align with business needs
- Support in research to inform Arup's understanding of current technological, political, environmental, and socioeconomic trends
- Engage with leaders both inside and outside of Arup to understand their context, viewpoints and perspectives on global drivers of change
- Synthesize diverse inputs into future-oriented research outputs that explore the changing nature of the built environment.
- Help to design and co-author a variety of materials that communicate complex ideas in a clear and impactful way
Requirements and skills
The successful candidate will play an integral part in helping the Americas region Foresight team to deliver regional and global foresight projects and initiatives. They will help contribute to our capacity and skillset around strategic planning, leadership engagement, insights, and analytics. Candidates are likely to come from a background in strategy consulting, design research, communication design, or related fields. We are open to candidates from a diverse set of backgrounds as long as they bring the right skills and fit our wider culture of exploration and excellence.
- 1-3 years experience in a strategy and/or foresight related role, including exposure to strategic planning, project management, stakeholder engagement and/or insights and analytics
- Experience in key frameworks, methodologies and approaches applied in typical corporate strategy initiatives as well as corporate foresight
- Ability to manage small projects with guidance, including project planning and coordination with other teams
- Ability to collaborate with small teams and support the learning and development of others
- Excellent visual, verbal and written communication, organisation, and problem-solving skills
- Interest in strategic foresight and research tools and methodologies
- Proficiency with Microsoft office tools and Adobe Creative Suite
- Experience in supporting planning, preparation, and delivery of workshops and events

Hiring Range: The good faith base salary hiring range for this job performed in California is $76,000 and $99,000. Benefits are not included in the base salary range. Summary of benefits are included in this posting with details provided to applicants at the time of interview. Please note hiring ranges for candidates performing work outside of California will differ.
