Job Overview
We are seeking a professional and detail-oriented Medical Receptionist to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will serve as the first point of contact for patients, providing exceptional customer service while managing administrative tasks efficiently. This role requires proficiency in medical office management systems, strong communication skills, and a thorough understanding of healthcare documentation and billing processes. The Medical Receptionist will play a vital role in ensuring smooth clinic operations, accurate record-keeping, and compliance with healthcare regulations such as HIPAA.
Responsibilities
- Greet patients and visitors with professionalism and courtesy at the front desk
- Schedule appointments using EMR systems such as Epic, Meditech, Athenahealth, eClinicalWorks, and other EHR platforms
- Verify insurance coverage and perform insurance verification procedures
- Collect patient information and update medical records accurately
- Manage multi-line phone systems, answer inquiries, and provide excellent patient service
- Handle medical billing and collections, including CPT coding, ICD-9/10 coding, and Medicare claims processing
- Review documentation for completeness and accuracy in accordance with healthcare standards
- Maintain organized filing systems for medical records and administrative documents
- Assist with intake procedures and patient check-in/out processes
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations regarding patient confidentiality and data security
- Support office management tasks such as filing, data entry, and document review
- Utilize computer skills to operate Microsoft Office applications efficiently
Experience
- Prior experience in a medical office setting, dental clinic, or hospital environment preferred
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems including Athena Health
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Experience with insurance verification processes and health information management is advantageous
- Bilingual abilities are a plus to effectively serve diverse patient populations
- Excellent customer service skills with professional phone etiquette and communication abilities
