Company Description
Arts Bridging the Gap (ABG) focuses on empowering youth from under-resourced and systemically excluded communities through transformative arts programs. By fostering healing, self-expression, empathy building, and civic engagement, ABG equips young people with interpersonal skills and growth mindsets. The organization offers programs included: Arts Wellness for healing through the arts, the LA Street Art Initiative to build civic pride through mural projects, Futures Rewired to expose youth to art and technology, and our community garden that bring the art of nature and healthy food to youth. Based in Los Angeles, ABG uses creative tools to empower the next generation to become community leaders.
Role Description
This volunteer role of Board Member will participate in virtual board meetings every second months, contribute expertise to committee work, engage in advocacy activities, support fundraising efforts, and help build partnerships with community stakeholders and donors. You will collaborate with other board members and staff to ensure the organization thrives in its mission to serve under-resourced communities through arts programs.
An ideal board member for ABG will be:
- Energetic and entrepreneurial businessperson, who is not already overextended with other commitments, eager to put their enthusiasm for changing the world to work for our children. (We are excited to bring on a diverse field of board members so any industry is interesting to us!)
- Could be community leaders and philanthropists willing to engage their peers/colleagues and friends in our mission to create a better future for all kids.
- Could be an astute governmental advocate who can assist in navigating the political landscape of policy development and funding.
- Could be a scholar/academic who is excited to put their expertise in child development, the arts, physical and mental health promotion, children, youth and families to work in the community.
- Could be an artist who is in a place in their career where they want to give forward to the next generations
Our biggest ask is that you be passionate about the issues, or have been personally affected by the challenges, faced by underserved and underrepresented communities and communities of color. We also ask that you be excited to speak up and open up your world and rolodex for the children who need our support the most!!
Expectations of board members
- Advocate - serve as an ambassador for Arts Bridging The Gap.
- Participate - attend and actively participate in four of the six annual Board meetings. If unable to attend a meeting: review the minutes and connect with the Board Chairman for updates. Join a minimum of at least one Task Force and/or committee during my tenure as a Board Member and attend at least 75% of the related meetings.
- Advise - oversee and provide guidance when relevant on strategic direction, governance, social/political considerations, the organization’s budget, creative solutions, and sustainable, fiscally-responsible strategies.
- Volunteer - make a conscious effort to volunteer with the organization multiple times throughout the year.
- Collaborate - work in good faith with Arts Bridging The Gap’s staff and other Board Members, as partners in the achievement of our goals and approach all work with optimism and care in an effort to facilitate a healthy, synergistic environment.
- Support — Personally contribute/solicit a minimum of $2000 (Give and/or get) by by Dec 31st each year. support the organization by sharing information about how to get involved with others, seeking out in-kind donations, and collaborating with my fellow Board members to oversee organizational activities and strategy.
- Fundraise - actively participate in fundraising efforts beyond the Give/Get, such as attending and/or volunteering at programming open to the public and all gala/fundraising events. Participate in new donor cultivation and stewardship, as well as ongoing fundraising efforts.
