Special Education Teacher
General Information
- Salaried Position with paid holidays and 10 paid time off (PTO) days per school year

- Schedule: 7:45 am - 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday, school days according to the calendar

Responsibilities and Duties
- Assesses students’ needs to direct and guide instruction.
- Writes clear and appropriate instructional goals that are reflected in the student’s IEP.
- Establishes clear expectations and motivation for student achievement.
- Creates and maintains an effective, engaging, and safe learning environment.
- Teaches students in small groups or 1:1 according to the students’ individualized goals.
- Designs learning activities tailored to the needs, goals and accommodations of each student.
- Monitors and reports student progress using a variety of methods.
- Displays a high degree of flexibility and responsiveness in meeting the learning needs of students.
- Appropriately handles confidential information and maintains accurate records.
- Initiates regular consultation to support fully-included students.
- Collaborates with faculty in a supportive and cooperative manner to ensure IEP accommodations are met.
- Provides clear direction, support and feedback to paraprofessionals assigned to work in the special education classroom setting or with individual students.
- Actively participates in professional development activities.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal, Assistant Principal or designee.

- The person filling this position will be evaluated according to the teacher evaluation procedures adopted by Arts Academy Elementary Charter School.
Reports to: Principal
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Special Education required.
- Valid PA Special Education Teacher Certification required.
- Experience teaching elementary-aged special education students is preferred.
- Experience teaching or working with students from diverse backgrounds is preferred.
This is a Full-Time, 10 month position offering a comprehensive benefit package including Medical, Dental, and Vision.
Salary: $48,000 w/Bachelor’s Degree; $50,000 w/Master’s Degree
Professional references are required.
