Job Title: Top Coat Line Operator
Reports To: Production Supervisor
FLSA Status: Full-time, Non-Exempt Status
Starting Wage: $21.00-$24.00 per hour
SUMMARY
Sets up and operates conveyor line to coat wood and wood composite products with water based or ultraviolet coating material.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Views rack to select orders with most priority
- Reviews order to understand the process needed to complete and verify correctness of color book, wood species, number of sticks, correct profile and any special instructions (if applicable)
- Inspects materials or products for damage or for conformity to specifications
- Mixes materials to achieve proper quality and finish
- Sets up coatings line making necessary adjustments to conveyors, spray guns, rollers, brushes, regulated air, nozzles, brackets, knobs and digital readouts to apply coatings according to specifications
- Begin by coating one piece and inspecting to verify finish quality and color blend to sample in color book
- Monitor the performance of the line throughout the shift and adjust as required to ensure the product meets customer specifications as indicated on the shop order
- Creates reject tags for materials outside of quality specifications and records rejects in ERP system
- Removes product from conveyor belt and places product on drying racks or in packaging carton
- Neatly packages materials for safe transport following Artistic Finishes’ packaging standards
- Assures all packaging and labeling is correct
- Accurately records appropriate production entry into ERP system
- Accurately create pack slips and freight carrier ship tags for customer orders
- Return usable coating materials to chemical room in properly marked containers
- Discards waste in appropriate containers, to the appropriate waste stream and according to prescribed manner
- Maintain and/or improve the condition and performance of the assigned line
- Perform minor maintenance on equipment as required
- Clean coating lines following Preventive Maintenance schedule
- Keep area clean, functional and well maintained
- Assist other coworkers, areas or departments as needed
- Displays company values in everyday conduct
- Ability to deal with frequent changes, delays or unexpected events
- Will report to work on time, alert and ready for production at designated start time
- Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS
- Ability to pass Hue Color Discrimination test
- Ability to meet or exceed production standards for quality and quantity
- Ability to interpret and complete various forms
- Ability to work various shifts for training, permanent shift and potential new and/or overtime shifts
- Self-motivated with a positive attitude
- Ability to identify and resolve problems or seek assistance in a timely manner and take direction
- Ability to coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written
- Respond promptly to internal and external customer needs and resolve all issues satisfactorily
- Prioritize and plan work activities and use time efficiently
- Ability to consistently meet or exceed deadlines
- Ability to deal with frequent changes, delays or unexpected events
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Operator set up experience a plus
- Previous manufacturing experience a plus
LANGUAGE SKILLS
- English required.
MATHEMATICAL AND COMPUTER DATA SKILLS
- The ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide into units of measure
- Basic knowledge of computer software in an office-based environment
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Lift and/or move 50 pounds for moving completing orders, supplies, and/or products to complete tasks
- Continuous standing and moving about the duration of shift(s)
- Repetitive movement of hands, arms and legs, push and pull
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Employee will be subjected to manufacturing environment including hot and cold temperatures, noise, dust, dirt and odors

- Must be available to work hours as necessary as dictated by prevailing work volumes including mandatory Saturdays when announced
