Primary Purpose:
The Maintenance Supervisor maintains production and quality by ensuring operation of machinery and mechanical equipment in accordance with Schuman Cheese Mission and Values; working with Commitment, Honesty and Integrity, Pride, be Adaptable and Innovative.
Responsibilities:
- Planning and directing plant maintenance activities and functions.
- Optimize labor and other resources to maximize efficiency and productivity.
- Ensure overall plant and employee safety.
- Address problems that arise, identify and implement solutions.
- Maintain and schedule preventative maintenance of equipment; assign direct reports.
- Understand machines- ability to read manuals and apply information to working. problems.
- Read blueprints and schematics.
- Assist with trouble shooting equipment on a highly automated line and one manually operated line.
- Ensure compliance of food safety and GMP standards.
- Maintain an active role in food safety and food quality programs through equipment and building maintenance.
- Report food safety or food quality issues that arise, prevent issues when possible.
- Ensure the necessary tools and supplies are readily available to support structural GMP compliance.
- Drive continuous improvement and project efforts.
- Understand and incorporate continuous improvement methodologies.
- Drive continuous improvement through the efficient use of resources (facilities, equipment, and people).
- Encourage and support new ideas and approaches to solve day-to-day challenges and key business issues.
- Provide leadership to all maintenance technicians, focusing on safety, quality, production and cost.
- Provide direction, development and leadership to direct reports.
- Assist with maintenance technician training.
- Flexible and willing to assist with repairs as needed to keep production running.
- Ensure all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP's), Standard Sanitation Operating Procedures (SSOP's) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) are being followed and adhered to.
- Work hands on with the maintenance team.
- Perform facility maintenance duties.
- Perform preventative maintenance procedures.
- Troubleshoot electrical issues.
- Work with hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical circuits (12, 24,110, 240 and 480 volts).
- Interface and troubleshoot controls/PLC system for highly automated production line.

Qualifications:Education, Experience, Qualities and Skills Required:
- Associate Degree in maintenance related field required. Experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
- 1-2 years in a leadership role in a manufacturing setting.
- Strong communication and leadership skills.
- Makes good, fact-based decisions through a mixture of analysis, experience, and judgment.
- Good conflict management, change management, and problem-solving skills.

- Knowledge in HACCP, GMP, SQF and USDA regulations is a plus.
- Previous experience with operating ammonia systems.
- Experience with thermoformers a plus.
- ABB Robotics experiences is a plus.
- Previous experience with Allen Brandley and Beckhoff PLCs/VFDs
Work Environment/Physical Requirements:
- This job operates in a professional office environment, as well as the plant floor.
- The employee is required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
- The employee also must be able to be on their feet for a full shift and able to stand, walk, twist, bend, etc.
- The employee must be able to lift up to 40 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
- The employee must be able to work inside a freezer or cooler and in cheese processing environment temperatures (32 – 52 degrees F)
- The ability to work with tree nuts, milk and wheat.
