Deli Counter Worker — Mike’s Deli

Job Summary

Mike’s Deli has been a part of Arthur Avenue since the 1940s. We are looking for an experienced deli worker to join our counter team.

This is a fast-paced, hands-on position. You will work directly with customers, make sandwiches while learning our products and standards. Responsibilities include taking customer orders, making sandwiches, slicing meats and cheeses, keeping the counter clean and stocked, and learning Mike’s Deli’s products and standards.

Our managers will provide hands-on training so you can learn how we do things at Mike’s Deli. We are looking for someone who is reliable, hardworking, comfortable talking with customers, and able to work efficiently in a busy environment.

Fridays and Saturdays are required. Weekday shifts may fall between 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM, and Saturday hours are between 8:00 AM and 8:00 PM. Mike’s Deli is closed on Sundays. This position requires a maximum of 20 hours per week. Candidates must have a flexible schedule. A break and lunch are provided during the shift.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and assemble a variety of deli foods, including sandwiches, salads, and cold cuts, following established recipes and safety standards
• Operate POS systems to process retail sales transactions accurately and efficiently
• Knowledge of inventory system a plus
• Food Handlers Certificate a plus
• Assist customers with their food orders, providing product recommendations and upselling additional items to enhance their experience
• Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of the deli area, including food handling stations, equipment, and workspace
• Operate kitchen equipment safely for food preparation tasks while adhering to food safety management practices
• Ensure all food products are stored properly in accordance with sanitation regulations and expiration dates are monitored regularly

Qualifications

• Previous deli or food-service experience preferred
• Previous experience with POS systems and Inventory Control preferred
• Health & Hygiene certificate a plus
• Reliable and punctual
• Friendly and comfortable interacting with customers
• Able to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
• Flexible availability
• Able to stand for extended periods and perform the physical duties of a deli counter position
• Basic math skills for processing transactions, and inventory management
• Knowledge of sanitation practices and maintaining a clean workspace in compliance with health regulations
• Experience operating kitchen equipment such as slicers, ovens, or refrigerators is a plus

Pay: $17.00 - $20.00 per hour
