We are looking for a full-time Maintenance Staff member to join our Facilities Department. In this role, you’ll support all programs across the organization in their facility maintenance needs, including driving duties. Team-oriented professionals who pay close attention to detail, take a proactive approach, and excel at customer service will thrive in this role.

This is a full-time position, with guaranteed 30-40 hours per week and occasional overtime opportunities. Rotating weekend availability required.

 

 

I.  General Purpose of the Job

The purpose of this position is to complete tasks necessary to maintain the company's facilities, focusing on basic and preventative facility maintenance, including minor plumbing, electrical, janitorial, stocking, structural repairs, groundskeeping, safety and compliance, and routine inspections. This position also provides scheduled transportation services for our residents in coordination with our Social Services department. All tasks should be performed in a manner that maintains employee safety and safely meets residents’ needs, in compliance with federal, state, and local requirements. This staff member will assist other Maintenance personnel in maintaining the facility buildings, its grounds, and equipment.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • Dispose of non-medical waste in accordance with facility policy and procedures.
  • Use maintenance equipment responsibly.
  • Identify and report any equipment malfunction or areas in poor condition/needing repair to the supervisor.
  • Conduct routine walkthroughs to check for damage, leaks, pests, etc.
  • Maintain the facility’s upkeep and routine care to prevent major, costly failures, performing preventative measures on-site whenever possible before engaging licensed professionals.
  • Perform light plumbing repairs (e.g., replacing faucets and minor waste piping, clearing simple clogs, and some main drains).
  • Complete various janitorial tasks (e.g., cleaning facility vehicles, carpets, vacuuming, dusting).
  • Conduct minor electrical fixes (e.g., replacing light fixtures or outlets, ballasts, checking fuses and wire connections).
  • Execute routine and corrective maintenance (e.g., fixing equipment not working properly, inspecting vents, changing filters).
  • Perform general interior repairs (e.g., patching drywall holes, fixing door locks, touch-up painting).
  • Perform exterior repairs (e.g., cleaning gutters, repairing doors, simple painting needs).
  • Provide non-emergency transportation services for residents as scheduled by the Social Services department. Key duties include operating specialized vehicles (wheelchair lifts), maintaining vehicle cleanliness, documenting trips, and adhering to strict safety/privacy regulations (always in compliance with HIPAA).
  • Maintain awareness of the resident’s medical directives (where to locate the emergency paperwork binder) prior to providing transportation services and be capable of communicating directives to emergency personnel in the event of a medical emergency during transportation.
  • Log and follow up on maintenance requests using the Maintenance Books daily.
  • Follow and complete maintenance checklist tasks efficiently (daily, weekly, monthly, and annual checklists).
  • Read and follow instructions in the material safety data sheets (MSDS).
  • Assume other duties as assigned by the Director of Facilities.
  • Be available to work on-call on a four-week rotation (after hours, weekends, and holidays).

 

General Duties and Responsibilities

  • Follow facility safety, emergency & disaster programs.
  • Maintain the principles of infection control and be aware of all safety hazards and emergency procedures for fire and disaster that would ensure the safety of our residents.   
  • Observe infection control procedures, especially those related to the Maintenance Department.
  • Interact positively with residents, families, and all staff. Be sensitive to residents’ particular individual needs and desires.
  • Adhering to HIPAA at all times.
  • Assume accountability for data contained in the employees’ handbook.
  • Attend all in-service training programs and complete Relias trainings as assigned.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate professional boundaries with clients, family members, and external agency contacts.
  • Perform other related duties as directed by his/her supervisor cooperatively.
Qualifications:

IIIQualifications

  1. Must pass a California criminal background clearance.
  2. Have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record. You must be at least 25 years of age to be added to Artesia Christian Home’s insurance policy.
  3. Must possess written and oral communication skills in English.
  4. Maintenance experience preferred. Must be willing to learn minor repairs and procedures.
  5. Hold, at minimum, a high school diploma or GED, and be interested in working in a health setting/maintenance department preferred.
  6. Must be able to work independently and follow directions given by their supervisor.
  7. Must be in good physical and mental condition, capable of performing assigned tasks:
  • Must be able to hear, talk, and have a clear vision with or without corrective lenses.
  • Must be able to balance, crouch, bend, grasp, kneel, pinch, pull, push, reach above the head, reach with arms extended, stand, stoop, bend, turn, twist neck, waist, or knees, lift, or exert force of up to 75 lbs. 
  • Must be able to work in tight spaces, in an environment with moderate noise levels, and exposure to dust and chemicals requiring precautions.
  • Good health must be verified by a health screening performed by a licensed physician, including a chest X-ray or intradermal test for TB.
