Summary: We are a PE-backed specialty trade services organization in an exciting phase of building out the organization's infrastructure to support scaling the business through both organic and in-organic growth. We are currently looking for a Corporate Controller who, reporting to the CFO, will lead the buildout of our accounting infrastructure across financial systems, processes, and reporting. We are looking for someone with a strong understanding of controls and experience in project-based accounting. As we grow, we need discipline in our financial processes to ensure we meet our revenue targets, as well as optimize our bottom line. This is an opportunity for someone hands-on to roll up their sleeves and be a part of our organization's evolution.
Key Responsibilitie
- sLead accounting function by overseeing general ledger accounting (including leading the monthly closing cycle, account reconciliations, and technical accounting matters), accounts payable, accounts receivable, expense reporting, and project cost accounting. Responsible for issuing monthly internal and external financial statements and supplemental financial information
- .Work to improve chart of accounts and overall accounting infrastructure. Oversee and coordinate all audits. Target: close the books and finalize reporting within 15 days of month-end
- .Proactively identify inefficiencies in current accounting workflows and implement improvements. Leverage modern tools, including AI and automation, to reduce manual work, accelerate reporting, and improve accuracy
- .Build scalable processes that support the growth trajectory without requiring proportional headcount increases
- .Partner with the CFO to evaluate, select, and implement a new ERP system to replace QuickBooks Desktop. Lead the accounting workstream of the implementation, including chart of accounts design, data migration, and integration with operational and payroll systems. Ensure the ERP solution works cross-functionally, not as a siloed finance tool. Prior ERP implementation experience is required
- .Build and maintain real-time operational and financial KPI dashboards to drive faster decision-making and enable strategic guidance to the CEO
- .Develop monthly flash forecasts with enough lead time for management to act on variances before month-end
- .Partner with the CFO to implement financial controls, optimize cost structures, and improve efficiency. Monitor project-level costs, cost center spending, and margins across multiple service regions. Make recommendations to drive lower costs, improve productivity, and enhance controls over spending
- .Work with the CFO and FP&A to upgrade internal reporting (e.g., monthly board reporting package) and ensure accounting records support analysis and decision-making
- .Manage the Company’s collection process and monitor allowance for bad debts. Partner with the CFO to forecast and manage cash flow. Monitor vendor terms. Ensure effective controls over inventory. Target: A/R days at 45 days or less
- .Coordinate all federal, state, and local tax compliance activities across a multi‑state services operation. Work closely with third‑party tax advisors to ensure accurate, timely filings and resolve complex tax questions related to projects, payroll, and sales/use tax
- .Support the due diligence process focusing on quality of earnings and the assessment of the target’s accounting system
- .Oversee the technical accounting for business combinations (ASC 805) and ensure that the target’s financials can be consolidated into the Company’s reporting on day one
