The Senior Cost Account acts as a business partner to the operations team. Creates and maintains analytical tools needed to support operational decision making related to investment, staffing, efficiencies or inventory control. Performs analysis to identify business drivers and helps implement solutions to drive business results. Performs month end close responsibilities including preparing and posting journal entries, completing balance sheet reconciliations, variance analysis, and executive presentation of results. Prepares and analyzes periodic reporting of standard cost, variances and inventory valuation. Ensures the accuracy of product standard costs and performs periodic audits to ensure BOMS and Routings are accurate. Records, analyzes and reports cost data for use of management in controlling expenditures, calculation of labor, overhead and other rates required for product costing. Leads the physical inventory and cycle count business processes with reporting and oversight to improve inventory accuracy. Periodically audits production associated business activities to ensure compliance and best practices are being maintained.
Essential Job Functions:
- Develop and utilize robust analytical tools to identify areas for operational efficiency improvements and cost savings.
- Conduct time studies of standard work processes on the manufacturing floor to determine labor routings and update Bills of Material.
- Review Capital Expenditure Requests and work with Operations managers to estimate ROI.
- Work with Operations Managers to design & manage the stock build program
- Manage inventory processes. This includes setting standard costs, monitor cycle count program, variance analysis, scrap, etc…ensuring that the financial statements are accurately stated. Work with buyers/planners to increase inventory turns, while meeting production needs.
- Identify opportunities to reduce manufacturing costs and work with the plant leadership team to implement cost savings processes.
- Perform month end close responsibilities. This includes preparing and entering month end journal entries, performing variance analysis and preparing balance sheet reconciliations.
- Manage reporting to analyze and communicate critical business drivers, such as expense trends, order completion status, inventory tracking, scrap reporting, etc.

Qualifications/Education Required:
- 4-year Accounting or Finance degree and CPA license preferred
- 5 years’ experience in lean manufacturing setting dealing with production planning, purchasing, expediting, MRP/ERP systems, quality/continuous improvement initiatives, including at least two years’ experience in a cost accounting role.
- Proficient with MS Office applications. Experience using QAD preferred
