General Job Description

The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and improving plant machinery, equipment, and facility systems to support safe and efficient manufacturing operations. This position performs preventive maintenance, machine setup, mechanical and basic electrical repairs, plumbing, boiler-related duties, welding and fabrication, and light facility maintenance.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, adjustments, cleaning, and lubrication on machinery and equipment to promote safe, reliable operation and minimize downtime.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and equipment issues; identify root causes and complete appropriate repairs or adjustments.
  • Inspect, operate, and test machinery and equipment to diagnose malfunctions and verify proper operation following repairs.
  • Repair, replace, assemble, and install machinery components, motors, drives, belts, bearings, wiring, electrical/electronic components, piping, and plumbing systems within the scope of the position.
  • Read and use blueprints, schematics, repair manuals, equipment documentation, and parts catalogs to support troubleshooting and repair activities.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, precision measuring instruments, and electrical/electronic testing devices safely and effectively.
  • Perform welding, cutting, and basic fabrication as needed for equipment and facility repairs.
  • Assist with machine setup, equipment installation, modifications, and light construction or facility maintenance projects.
  • Perform routine checks of fluid levels, filters, drives, motors, belts, and other equipment components in accordance with maintenance schedules and checklists.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance, equipment, and parts records; communicate parts needs and coordinate with vendors to obtain necessary materials and replacement components.
  • Follow lockout/tagout procedures and all applicable company, OSHA, and plant safety requirements when performing maintenance activities.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area and properly care for tools, equipment, and maintenance supplies.
  • Respond to equipment breakdowns and maintenance needs in a timely manner and work collaboratively with production employees and supervisors to reduce operational disruptions.
  • Perform other maintenance-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Two or more years of industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical systems, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and safe use of hand and power tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals, blueprints, schematics, and maintenance documentation.
  • Basic electrical, plumbing, welding/fabrication, and equipment repair experience preferred.
  • PLC and/or CNC troubleshooting or repair experience preferred.
  • Forklift operator certification preferred; ability to obtain company-required equipment certifications as needed.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple maintenance needs, and respond effectively to unexpected equipment issues.
  • Ability to work occasional hours outside the normal schedule as business or equipment needs require.

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to handle or operate tools and equipment, reach with hands and arms, and communicate effectively. The employee must frequently bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, balance, push, pull, carry, and work in and around machinery. The position requires frequent lifting and moving of objects weighing up to 50 pounds, with heavier items moved using appropriate assistance or material-handling equipment.

The employee may work at varying heights using ladders or lifts and may work outdoors or in hot, cold, humid, or inclement conditions. The manufacturing environment includes exposure to moving mechanical parts, vibration, fumes or airborne particles, and loud noise. Required personal protective equipment, including hearing protection, must be worn in designated areas. Specific vision abilities include close and distance vision, color and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Salary : $50,376 - $66,917
