Position Overview
The Production Manager is responsible for overseeing day-to-day manufacturing operations, ensuring production targets are met safely, efficiently, and in alignment with quality standards. This role requires strong hands-on knowledge of mechanical processes, equipment, and manufacturing workflows, along with proven leadership experience in a plant environment.
The ideal candidate will drive operational excellence, support continuous improvement initiatives, and work closely with maintenance, engineering, and quality teams to optimize production performance.
Key Responsibilities
Production & Operations Management
- Manage daily production operations to meet output, quality, safety, and cost targets.
- Develop and execute production schedules aligned with demand, labor, and equipment capacity.
- Monitor KPIs including throughput, downtime, scrap, and OEE; take corrective action as needed.
- Ensure compliance with SOPs, safety regulations, and plant policies.
Mechanical Process & Equipment Oversight
- Provide hands-on leadership and technical guidance on mechanical manufacturing processes, including machining, assembly, fabrication, and equipment operation.
- Partner with maintenance and engineering teams to troubleshoot mechanical issues, reduce downtime, and improve equipment reliability.
- Support equipment installation, commissioning, upgrades, and preventive maintenance programs.
- Review and improve mechanical workflows to enhance efficiency, quality, and consistency.
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, coach, and develop production supervisors, leads, and operators.
- Ensure teams are properly trained on mechanical processes, equipment use, and safety procedures.
- Drive accountability for attendance, performance, and adherence to standards.
- Foster a culture of safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
Quality, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure all manufacturing activities meet quality, safety, and regulatory requirements.
- Promote and enforce lockout/tagout, machine guarding, and safe work practices.
- Collaborate with Quality to address non-conformances and implement corrective actions.
Continuous Improvement & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Lead and support Lean, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Identify process bottlenecks and implement solutions to improve efficiency and reduce waste.
- Work closely with Engineering, Maintenance, Supply Chain, and Quality teams to align production goals.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent hands-on manufacturing experience).
- 5 years of experience in manufacturing operations, with at least 3 – 5 years in a supervisory or management role.
- Strong working knowledge of mechanical manufacturing processes and equipment.
- Proven experience managing teams in a fast-paced plant environment.
- Solid understanding of safety standards, preventive maintenance, and production planning.
Preferred
- Experience in machining, metal fabrication, assembly, or automated manufacturing environments.
- Lean Manufacturing / Six Sigma certification.
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems and production reporting tools.
