Position Summary:
The Account Manager – Outside Sales is responsible for managing and growing a portfolio, primarily in the construction and building trades. This is a field-based role focused on building long-term relationships, driving new business, and meeting sales targets. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, knowledgeable about construction materials, and thrives in a fast-paced, customer-first environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing customers to retain and grow accounts
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities with contractors, builders, and developers
- Conduct regular site visits to assess customer needs, resolve issues, and provide product recommendations
- Prepare and present quotes, bids, and product proposals
- Collaborate with inside sales, operations, and dispatch teams to ensure timely deliveries and service excellence
- Stay informed about industry trends, competitor activity, and product knowledge
- Maintain accurate records of sales activity, pipeline, and customer communication using CRM tools
- Meet or exceed monthly and quarterly sales goals
Qualifications:
- 2 years of outside sales experience in construction, building materials, or related industry
- Proven track record of achieving sales goals and growing customer accounts
- Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of building materials (lumber, drywall, hardware, etc.) strongly preferred
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record
- Ability to travel locally on a daily basis
