What are the responsibilities and job description for the Rental Counter and Equipment Technician position at Arrow Construction Supply LLC?
The Rental Counter and Equipment Technician is responsible for preparing rental contracts on our rental fleet. Responsibilities include but are not limited to inspections, diagnosis, repair, and maintenance on asphalt rental equipment, assist in the organization of inventory in the yard, check out inspections to maintain parts and services required.
Key Responsibilities
Safety
- Promote and maintain a safe work environment for employees, customers, and vendors
- Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and standards
- Complete Job Hazard Analysis prior to job-related tasks when required
- Maintain clean and clutter-free work areas
- Properly use required personal protective equipment (PPE)
Equipment Inspection, Maintenance & Repair
- Perform inspections to identify equipment damage, safety concerns, and maintenance needs
- Assist with diagnosing operational issues on asphalt, concrete, and related rental equipment
- Perform basic repairs and preventative maintenance as needed
- Test equipment to ensure proper functionality before and after rental
- Record equipment hours and document inspection results with written notes and photos when necessary
- Assist with troubleshooting equipment issues over the phone or occasionally on job sites
- Assist with maintenance and cleaning of crack filler equipment, including chipping out material from tanks when necessary, which may require entering equipment tanks and working in confined spaces while following all safety procedures
Rental Fleet and Yard Maintenance
- Assist in maintaining and organizing the rental yard and shop
- Clean, inspect, and prepare equipment for upcoming rentals
- Perform check-in and check-out inspections for rental equipment
- Refuel equipment and check oil, water, and fluid levels
- Clean and service small air tools, electric tools, and other rental items
- Pressure wash equipment and maintain wash areas
- Assist with repainting equipment and updating identification numbers when needed
- Assist in cleaning and maintaining hoses, tools, and accessories
- Monitor equipment hour meters and usage levels
- Keep the shop, warehouse, and yard clean and organized
Customer Service & Rental Support
- Provide excellent customer service to rental customers
- Assist with equipment loading and unloading for customers and delivery drivers
- Demonstrate proper equipment operation when needed
- Assist with equipment deliveries when required
- Help process rental contracts, returns, and billing when assisting at the rental counter
- Accurately report equipment condition before and after rental
Equipment Handling & Operations
- Safely operate forklifts and shop equipment when moving machinery and rental items
- Load and unload towable equipment such as compressors, generators, and light towers
- Operate pressure washers for cleaning equipment and yard areas
Additional Duties
- Maintain productivity and remain self-motivated throughout the workday
- Follow all operational procedures and quality control standards
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Store Manager or management team
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record required
- Mechanical aptitude or basic mechanical experience preferred
- Ability to learn maintenance and repair of construction or rental equipment
- Forklift experience or willingness to learn
- Strong work ethic and willingness to assist in multiple areas of the business
- Strong attention to safety and equipment care
- Good communication and customer service skills
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds safely
- Frequent bending, lifting, stooping, squatting, reaching, crouching, and kneeling
- Ability to stand or sit for extended periods
- Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen
Work Environment
This position operates in a combination of shop, warehouse, yard, and customer service environments. Employees will regularly work around construction equipment, machinery, and vehicles and must follow all safety procedures.
