Grant-Funded Position LIFT (Leadership & Instructional Foundations for Texas)
Primary Purpose
The Elementary Math Instructional Coach serves as an instructional leader supporting grades Pre-K -5th mathematics. This position focuses on strengthening teacher capacity, facilitating Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), and ensuring high-fidelity implementation of Bluebonnet Math instructional materials.
This role is grant-funded over three years through the LIFT program and emphasizes coaching, systems-building, and professional learning rather than direct student intervention or evaluation.
Qualifications
Education/Certification
- Bachelor's degree required
- Valid Texas teaching certificate in Mathematics
- Master's degree preferred
Experience
- Minimum 3 years successful elementary math teaching experience
- Experience leading PLCs, coaching teachers, or serving in instructional leadership roles preferred
- Experience implementing Bluebonnet or other HQIM strongly preferred
- Experience supporting school improvement or accountability efforts (CSI/TSI/D-rated campuses) preferred
Special Knowledge & Skills
- Deep content knowledge of grades Pre-K5th mathematics
- Strong understanding of Bluebonnet Math or high-quality instructional materials
- Knowledge of STAAR, EOC, MAP Growth, and Texas accountability systems
- Expertise in lesson internalization and effective lesson design
- Ability to analyze and interpret student performance data
- Ability to disseminate data effectively and clearly
- Ability to model effective instruction in classrooms
- Strong interpersonal, coaching, and facilitation skills
- Ability to build trust and maintain confidentiality
- Strong organization and time management skills
- Ability to remain calm and solutions-oriented under pressure
Major Responsibilities
Instructional Coaching
- Provide job-embedded coaching to grades PreK-5th teachers
- Model effective lessons and instructional strategies
- Conduct frequent classroom observations and provide timely, strengths-based feedback
- Support differentiation within Tier 1 instruction
PLC Facilitation
- Lead math PLCs focused on:
- lesson internalization
- student work analysis
- formative assessment
- reteach planning
- data-driven instruction
- Support the development of strong collaborative PLC culture across both campuses
Curriculum & Implementation
- Support high-fidelity implementation of Bluebonnet Math curriculum
- Assist with pacing, planning, and alignment
- Partner with Region 7 and campus leaders to meet LIFT implementation goals
Data & Accountability
- Track math performance across grades
- Lead data digs and root cause analysis
- Support teachers in using STAAR/EOC/MAP data to adjust instruction
- Assist with campus improvement and accountability goals
Vertical Alignment
- Coordinate with secondary math coach to ensure K12 alignment
- Work collaboratively with secondary math coach to observe 5th-grade math instruction, coach teachers, and support effective instructional practices that promote a successful transition to junior high
Collaboration
- Maintain positive, professional relationships with staff
- Provide flexible support across both campuses
- Serve as a trusted partner and thought leader for teachers and administrators
Work Calendar
- 192 days (or district-determined)
- Some extended/summer days may be required
