Job Summary
We are seeking qualified Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) to provide nursing care within a correctional facility medical clinic under the supervision and direction of a Registered Nurse, licensed physician, or dentist.
The LPN will provide direct and indirect nursing care, administer medications, monitor patient health status, document care, and support the healthcare team in delivering safe and effective patient care.
Responsibilities
- Perform nursing procedures and specialized functions according to nursing knowledge, skills, and licensure.
- Provide direct and indirect nursing care to patients in a correctional healthcare setting.
- Obtain and document vital signs, including temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure.
- Administer medications as ordered.
- Assist with assessing and documenting patient health status.
- Monitor and report patient responses to treatments and interventions.
- Participate in developing and implementing appropriate aspects of patient care plans.
- Communicate relevant patient information to the supervising nurse or appropriate healthcare team member.
- Follow all facility-specific healthcare, safety, security, and emergency procedures.
- Complete required ODOC training before beginning the assignment.
Level I Requirements
- Valid permanent Oklahoma LPN license approved by the Oklahoma Board of Nursing, OR
- LPN license recognized through the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC).
- Entry-level practical nursing experience is acceptable.
Level II Requirements
- Valid permanent Oklahoma LPN license approved by the Oklahoma Board of Nursing plus at least 1 year of practical nursing experience, OR
- LPN license recognized through the eNLC plus at least 1 year of practical nursing experience.
Important Requirements
- Candidates must be willing and able to work any assigned shift or day of the week as required by the facility.
- Some positions may require job-related travel between facilities.
- BLS certification is NOT required. If a candidate holds BLS certification, it may be included on the resume.
- All healthcare staff must complete 16 ODOC online training modules before reporting to the facility.
- ODOC online training must be completed before assignment and is not billable to ODOC.
- Facility-specific emergency and safety training will also be completed during onboarding.
Correctional Facility Safety
The safety and security of employees and contracted healthcare staff are a top priority of the Oklahoma Department of Corrections.
Currently, there are no positions at the maximum-security facility for this need.
Healthcare personnel will complete facility-specific emergency situation training during onboarding, and the correctional facility maintains security protocols for staff and contracted personnel working inside the facility.
Additional Information
- Shift: Current need is for day shift at Joseph Harp Correctional Center.
- Orientation: Facility-specific onboarding and required training will be provided as applicable.
- Weekend Coverage: Candidates must be willing to work weekends if assigned.
- RTO/Holidays: Scheduling and time-off requests are subject to facility requirements.
- Overtime: Subject to facility approval and operational requirements.
- Floating: Candidates should be prepared for potential assignment-related travel/floating when required.
- Contract Duration: 6–12 months, with the option to extend, not to exceed 12 months total.
