Summary

The Quality Assurance Engineer is responsible for analyzing and assessing field returns and in-process non-confirming product. He/she conducts root cause analysis and implements corrective actions to address the defects identified and to discern quality defect patterns associated with a specific product, component or manufacturing process. The position may pull and quarantine product when warranted and will work to continuously improve QA product testing, troubleshooting, and design.


Responsibilities

1. The Quality Assurance Engineer is responsible for designing and developing sampling procedures, forms and instructions for recording, evaluating, and reporting quality and reliability data using statistical analysis tools. He/she plays a key role in the development of training materials and training sessions regarding quality control activities.

2. The Quality Assurance Engineer provides technical and process direction to production Quality Inspectors. He/she analyses and resolves or assists workers in solving work problems; oversees the implementation of quality standard programs and processes to improve operational efficiencies and reduce/eliminate production waste and HOLD product; and trains employees on SOP’s.

3. The position assists with the inspection of products for structural or surface defects and helps to identify root causes in design and/or process. He/she develops and implements procedures for handling of discrepant material and may stop production when required.

4. The Quality Assurance Engineer devises ways to troubleshoot problems that ensure products are assembled appropriately: he/she facilitates and promotes the use of appropriate problem-solving techniques for effective root cause analysis and successful corrective action for quality related concerns. These include quality that may relate to design, tolerance, assembly, and material related issues.

5. The position will lead in the development of both Design and Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) documentation.

6. The Quality Assurance Engineer ensures staff adheres to the Quality Management System (QMS), the procedures set forth by adopted Standards Certifications (ISO, TS-16949, AS9100…), and official company policies/ guidelines. He/she may be assigned to participate-in or lead quality audits, Corrective/Preventive Action efforts, training sessions, or similar programs.

7. The Quality Assurance Engineer is responsible for employee relations with assigned staff. He/she manages this activity through effective communications, staff meetings, coaching and by providing feedback to staff, both formal and informal, that is geared toward professional growth and/or performance improvement. He/she uses positive management techniques to direct and develop staff.

8. The Quality Assurance Engineer trains, coaches and counsels assigned staff; communicates performance expectations; plans, monitors, appraises, and reviews performance; and adheres to the Company’s policies and procedures.

9. This position supports calibration of equipment.

10. Other related duties as assigned.


Position Requirements

These specifications are general guidelines based on the minimum experience normally considered essential to the satisfactory performance of this position. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to perform the position in a satisfactory manner. Individual abilities may result in some deviation from these guidelines.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering: Mechanical or a closely related discipline and 0-3 years previous experience is required; or equivalent education and experience.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt Certification is preferred
  • Experience in the automotive industry preferred.
  • Basic understanding of AC and DC circuits highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of and testing of platings, metals, cables, connectors, plastics, paints, compressors, and rubber desired.
  • Ability to work in a cross-functional team environment with production, engineering, purchasing, sales, quality, finance, human resources and other stake holders within the organization to achieve overall company objectives required.
  • Strong process orientation: Detail oriented, logical, and methodological approach to problem solving. Ability to read, analyze and interpret general technical procedures. Ability to deal with complex problems involving multiple facets and variables in non-standardized situations.
  • Excellent grasp of the implementation of quality procedures, 5-Whys’s and DMAIC techniques and statistical analysis tools preferred. Uses tools such as voltmeters, gauges, micrometers, and other tools to measure and analyze products in a lab or field setting.
  • Intermediate mathematics skills required and strong computer skills needed.
  • Ability to learn the proper use of inspection tools such as micrometers, calipers, height gauges, surface plates, dial indicators, gauge blocks and pins, thread gauges and other common measurement. Additional experience with optical comparators, coordinate measuring machines (CMM), hardness testers, cosmetic evaluation, and other advanced test methods is preferred.
  • Exceptional oral, written and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions and instruct others, interpret documents, understand procedures, write reports and correspondence. Ability to translate technical requirements into common language terms to instruct others. Technical writing skills for creating reports and specifications using MS Word and Excel. Data analysis skills for manipulating large data sets, including pivot tables and macros.
  • Excellent organization and time management skills. Ability to work with little supervision while performing duties.
