What are the responsibilities and job description for the Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis Specialist position at Arnot Health?
Main Function:
The Pre-Exposure Prophylaxid Specialist will provide direct patient service including screening, assessment, education, and treatment adherence for patients interested and receiving PrEP services. In addition, the PrEP Specialist is responsible for education of community residents and agencies about the PrEP program to encourage an increase in caseload.
Direct Patient Care:
- Conducts patient screening and assessment to identify patients appropriate for PrEP. Documents assessments, education, and plans in the medical record and AIRS.
- Provides behavioral and adherence counseling for patients receiving PrEP treatment.
- Collaborates with HIV Primary Care Clinic team and community based staff; including, but not limited to, physicians, nurse practitoners, nurses, social workers, case managers, and other professional staff.
- Makes referrals to physicians, clinical staff, community health agencies, or other professional staff as needed.
- Maintains confidentiality in the patient care environment.
- Collaborates with PrEP Peer Navigators to link and retain patients on PrEP in care by providing monitoring and support.
- Facilitates group or individual educational events for patients on PrEP therapy. Includes but is not limited to, risk reduction, Hepitatis B and C prevention/treatment, partner counseling and referrals.
- Provides follow-up for patients who miss appointments to re-engage them in care. Collaborates with Health Homes and other community partners are utilized as needed.
- Provides age-appropriate care to adult and geriatric patients.
Educational, Institutional, and Community Involvement, Other:
- Provides in-service education opportunities for Arnot Health, Arnot Medical Services, and HIV Clinic staff and other Health Home and community agency staff as requested.
- Designs and provides recruitment strategies to reach and engage individuals at risk for HIV infection who are appropriate for PrEP.
- Encourages increased acceptance of PrEP by educating community residents and agencies about the clinic's program.
- Takes part in public and professional education and HIV/AIDS prevention and screening programs as appropriate.
- Assumes responsibility for continuing education relevant to personal and professional learning needs.
- Participates in Arnot health department staff meetings.
- Maintains and assures availability of timely PrEP education materials, supplies, and equipment.
- Demonstrates professional image, attitude and behaviors consistent with the philosophy of Arnot Health.
- Is responsible for attending all annual mandatory educational programs as required by the position.

Education:
- Bachelors degree in Social Work, Human Services, Nursing Science, or Public Health/Community Education preferred.
Experience:
- Previous experience in a medical office setting preferred.
- Previous experience working with HIV population highly desirable.
- Program design background desirable
CPR Requirements:
- BLS required withing 90 days of hire date.
General:
Ability to maintain good interpersonal relationships among staff, physicians, and other Arnot Health personnel. Must possess excellent communicative skills, with the ability to effectively relate to and work with wide cross section of individuals, including Arnot Health personnel, HIV/PCC staff, physicians, as well as patients, families and caregivers and the general public.
Physical Demands:
Light physical effort required. Required to transport materials and equipment for service promotion activities moderate-heavy objects lifted, some reaching and stooping.
