MAIN FUNCTION:

The Registered Nurse is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility and accountability for a group of patients for a designated timeframe and provides care to these patients via therapeutic use of self, the nursing process, the environment/instrumentation, and other health care team members. The Registered Nurse is expected to perform their duties according to established standards of care and the core values established by the Division of Nursing. Reports to assigned Unit Director.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

STANDARDS OF CARE

Nursing Process Assessment

** 1. Performs assessment/data collection in an ongoing and systematic manner, focusing on physiologic, psychological and cognitive status of patients.


Diagnosis

** 2. Analyzes assessment data to determine appropriate nursing diagnoses.


Outcome Identification

** 3 Identifies appropriate expected outcomes individualized to the patient.


Planning

** 4. Formulates a goal directed plan of care, which is prioritized and based on determined nursing diagnosis and patient outcomes.


** 5. Identifies patient/significant other learning needs and implements appropriate measures to meet these.


Implementation

** 6. Implements care in a knowledgeable, skillful, consistent and continuous manner.


** 7. Performs documentation duties on unit and in patient record, which is timely, accurate and concise.


Evaluation

** 8. Evaluates effectiveness of self, care given by all health care team members, and contribution of systems, environment, and instrumentation in progressing patient toward outcomes

** 38. Provides age-appropriate care to all patients according to their age groups for the particular unit to which the individual is assigned.

EDUCATION:

Current NYS nursing licensure, limited permit or eligible. Excellent communication skills and writing ability.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Appreciable physical effort required; lifting, pulling, pushing, and moving patients of various size, capabilities and abilities. Some lifting, reaching, and stooping. Required to be on feet much of the time.


EXPOSURE CATEGORY:

Category I. Tasks that involve exposure to blood and body fluid or tissues.


** ADA Essential Functions

Required Departmental Certifications (ACLS, PALS MUST BE AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION)- Maintained by Education Dept.

ACLS within 18 months.

3B

ACLS within 18 months, NIHSS within 90 days

Float

ACLS within 6 months, PALS within 18 months, NIHSS within 90 days

Cath Lab

ACLS within 90 days

ED

ACLS within 6 months of employment, PALS/ENPC within 12 months of employment, NIHSS within 90 days

1 year clinical experience.

Endo

ACLS within 12 months of employment.

ICU

ACLS within 6 months of employment, PALS within 18 months, NIHSS within 90 days

Perinatal

Neonatal Resuscitation Certification within 6 months of employment, AWHONN Basic Fetal monitoring course within 6 months of employment

Labor & Delivery only: ACLS within 6 months

NICU

Neonatal Resuscitation within 6 months of employment STABLE within 1 year

Pediatrics 4C

PALS certification within 12 months of employment.

Post Anesthesia Recovery

ACLS within 12 months of employment, PALS within 18 months

Radiology

ACLS within 90 days of employment., PALS within 18 months

Stress Lab

ACLS within 90 days of employment.
