Programs Manager Full-Time, 35 hours per week
The Arnot Art Museum seeks a full-time Programs Manager to develop, present and manage programs in an award-winning fine arts education environment.
The Programs Manager leads the Museum’s Education Department and plans and executes programming relating to Museum exhibitions, contributing to a comprehensive annual program calendar. Responsibilities include scheduling and planning lessons for classroom programs for regional school districts; the Museum offers educational programs for students through collegiate level. The Programs Manager works with teachers and administrators throughout the year to plan programs which meet NYS Learning and Curriculum Standards. This position also schedules, plans and leads tours for other audiences, including adult and special needs groups.
The Programs Manager will be responsible for the recruitment and management of volunteers in a new docent program. In this role the Programs Manager will manage a diverse community of docent educators, and will collaborate with team members to train docents to lead tours and gallery discussions. The Programs Manager also leads educational discussions and studio art activities during student tours.
The Programs Manager works with team members to develop public programs that exemplify the Museum’s core mission as well as the commitment to provide an accessible art education resource for the community.
Additional duties include Front Desk administration and performance of Guest Relations responsibilities, actively assisting visitors. Collections care and maintenance duties are shared by the Museum staff as appropriate.

In this position the Programs Manager is responsible for reaching out to community partners to design programs that fit the needs of students and educators, the citizens of Elmira, and the arts community.
The full-time Programs Manager works 35 hours per week, Tuesday through Saturday from 9am-5pm, with occasional evening responsibilities for special events and programs. This position reports directly to the Executive Director.
Qualifications and Desired Skills:
- B.A. in art or education preferred; other educational backgrounds considered.
- Experience working with the public, especially students ages 6–18 years.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Superior written and verbal communication and group presentation skills.
- Self-starter with project management skills, including schedules, tracking, and task prioritization.
- Knowledge and understanding of current social media landscape, trends, and tools.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint).
- Experience in curriculum planning and implementation a plus.
- Certified teacher or graduate degree in education a plus.
