We are seeking a skilled Controls Engineer to join our dynamic systems integration team. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, programming, commissioning, and supporting automated control systems across diverse industrial applications. This role offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge automation projects spanning manufacturing, process control, and material handling systems.
Key Responsibilities
Design and Development
- Design control system architectures for complex automated systems including PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, and industrial networks
- Develop detailed electrical schematics, control panel layouts, and P&IDs using AutoCAD
- Create comprehensive project documentation including functional specifications, I/O lists, and commissioning procedures
- Select appropriate hardware components including controllers, I/O modules, drives, sensors, and safety systems
Programming and Configuration
- Program PLCs using ladder logic, structured text, and function block diagrams
- Develop and configure HMI/SCADA applications for operator interfaces and data visualization
- Implement industrial communication protocols (Ethernet/IP, Modbus, Profibus, DeviceNet, OPC)
- Configure variable frequency drives, servo systems, and motion control applications
- Program safety systems and implement functional safety standards (SIL ratings)
Project Execution and Support
- Lead control system commissioning and startup activities at customer sites
- Troubleshoot complex automation systems and resolve technical issues efficiently
- Provide technical support during installation, testing, and validation phases
- Collaborate with mechanical engineers, electrical designers, and project managers throughout project lifecycle
- Conduct system testing, FAT (Factory Acceptance Testing), and SAT (Site Acceptance Testing)
Customer Interaction
- Interface directly with customers to understand process requirements and technical specifications
- Provide training to customer personnel on system operation and maintenance
- Support warranty and service activities including remote diagnostics and on-site troubleshooting
- Assist in preparing technical proposals and cost estimates for automation solutions
Required Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related technical field
- 8 years of experience in industrial automation and control systems
- Experience working for a systems integrator or automation supplier preferred
Technical Skills
- Proficiency in PLC programming platforms (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Schneider Electric, or similar)
- Experience with HMI/SCADA software (FactoryTalk View, WinCC, Wonderware, Ignition)
- Knowledge of industrial networking and communication protocols
- Understanding of motor control, VFDs, and servo systems
- Knowledge of robot programming (Fanuc preferred)
- Familiarity with safety systems and functional safety standards
- AutoCAD or equivalent drafting software experience
- Understanding of process control principles and instrumentation
