Summary
This is a Title 32 Excepted Service Position within the Illinois National Guard. As a Surface Maintenance Mechanic, you will perform maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, inspection, and/or overhaul of combat, tactical, commercial, and special purpose vehicles and equipment.
Main Responsibilities:
- Perform maintenance, repair, and overhaul of various combat, tactical, commercial, and special purpose vehicles and equipment.
- Determine what adjustments are necessary to complete work orders and whether additional repairs other than those specified or indicated on the work order are required.
- Assist in the maintenance of production reports and records.
- Perform operational inspections and ensure vehicles and equipment are properly serviced.
Major Duties:
- Troubleshoot, perform maintenance and major repairs on heavy-duty mobile equipment including self-propelled artillery, tracked cargo and personnel carriers, road graders, mobile cranes, front loaders, conveyors, bulldozers, power shovels, compressors, generators, tanks, tracked combat vehicles, sedans, buses, all-terrain vehicles, trucks, semi-trailers, forklifts, tractors, and accessory equipment.
- Repair complex major systems including engines, cross drive or similar multi-system transmissions, and intricate fuel injection systems.
- Remove and disassemble engines and major assemblies, sub-assemblies, components, and fuel, hydraulic, and oil pressure systems.
- Reassemble engines and other systems, adjust, test, and reinstall in vehicles and equipment.
Requirements:
- Membership in the Illinois National Guard is required prior to placement.
- Acceptance of this position constitutes concurrence with military membership requirements as a condition of employment.
- Selectee must wear the military uniform.
- Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
