Purpose
Reporting to the Onboard Management Team, the Onboard Host delivers exceptional guest service and life changing experiences through service excellence, upscale meals, personalized storytelling, and one-on-one interactions with guests in the Signature and Premium railcars over a three (3) day rail journey from Denver, CO to Salt Lake City, UT.
We are looking for exceptional Hosts to join our Onboard team who can be role models and champions of our values and culture and team members who can deliver service excellence for our guests.
This position is deemed Safety Alert since regular access to an active railway area is required. The Onboard Host is part of the Onboard team, responsible for the health and safety of colleagues, guests, the public, property, and the environment.
Key Areas of Accountability
Deliver world class service and life changing experiences for guests
• Create an environment where guests feel welcomed, engaged, and valued by anticipating their needs, being attentive, and providing a high-quality guest experience.
• Resolve guest-related concerns by listening with empathy and providing timely resolutions.
• Prepare and deliver the beverage, meal, and snack services per established standard operating procedures in a positive, polished, and professional manner.
• Prepare coaches as required (pillows, blankets, galley set up, cart preparation, and daily inventories).
• Provide enthusiastic, consistent, factual, and engaging storytelling to Canyon Spirit (CS) guests by pointing out areas of interest and pertinent information regarding the route and history of the region in alignment with the Storytelling Manual.
Collaboratively work in a team environment
• Maintain a positive attitude with the team to create meaningful moments and achieve extraordinary outcomes.
• Adapt, if required, to work in multiple railcars with varying teams over a 6-day rail journey.
• Work closely with other hosts to provide seamless services and address any guest issues.
• Work with Train Manager and team to coordinate appropriate service timing.
• Work with Culinary Host and team to document and communicate food quality, presentation, packaging consistency and variations through food audits and communication with leadership.
• Look for improvements in efficiencies within the operation.
• Demonstrate strong time management and organizational skills.
• Ensure all transactions and cash outs are processed as per Standard Operating Procedures.
• Clean and stock railcars, galleys, and washrooms to set standards at the end of each leg of the journey.
• Facilitate the training of new team members.
• Work with the Guest Services Manager, Train Manager, and Leadership team on reducing waste.
• Maintain correct inventory levels and reconcile as required at the end of each journey.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Onboard Leadership team.
• Actively engages with the various communication tools used across the company (i.e.: Microsoft Teams, Outlook, Connecteam, and Sharepoint).
High level of awareness for the health and safety of both guests and team members
• Adhere to all Canyon Spirit's safety and security standards.
• Adhere to Canyon Spirit policies and procedures for the wearing, removal, and disposal of personal protective equipment (PPE) to reduce or prevent exposure to hazards and other health risks.
• Uphold sanitary practices and HACCP guidelines for food handling, general cleanliness, maintenance of galleys, and other service areas.
• Follow the company's, Colorado's, and Utah's policies when serving alcoholic beverages and food services.
Qualifications
Education / Certifications / Knowledge
• High School diploma or GED
• Fluency in the English language required
• Current or past certifications in food handling, alcohol service, or first aid, considered an asset
• If not in possession of food handling and alcohol certifications, it will be a requirement to obtain once hired.
• Proficiency in a second language considered an asset
Experience/Skills
• Service delivery in a full-service dining environment required
• Solid communication and interpersonal skills
• Solid public speaking skills and ability to deliver storytelling to 50 guests
• Solid serving and hosting skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Suite
• Experience in food preparation or cooking an asset
Work Environment
• Must be over 21 years old
• Exceptional physical endurance and emotional resiliency with the ability to work long days
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 40 pounds
• Able to travel away from home base for up to 6 days at a time
• Able to work weekends and holidays. Must be legally allowed to work in the United States through the end of November 2026

Compensation
• Salary: $19.75 an hour PLUS gratuities. All gratuities will be reported and taxed per federal and state laws.
