Job Description
The Occupational Therapist is responsible for the evaluation and treatment of patients in compliance with licensure standards. This role involves collaboration with an interdisciplinary team to contribute to patient goal development, care planning, and identification of barriers to discharge. The therapist will provide patient-centered care and educate patients and their families on treatment procedures, assistive devices, home programs, and health-related topics.
Responsibilities
- Select and perform evaluation and treatment methods based on the patient's age, diagnosis, symptoms, and physician orders.
- Orient patients and their families to the purpose and procedures of the therapy evaluation and treatment.
- Provide appropriate patient education and family teaching to meet the needs of patients and their families.
- Coordinate treatment schedules with other disciplines using appropriate scheduling procedures.
- Monitor program effectiveness and outcomes, initiating new programs as necessary.
- Perform pain assessments and take appropriate actions as per standard operating procedures.
- Obtain and document all required patient information accurately.
- Participate with the interdisciplinary team in developing and documenting discharge plans.
- Identify significant changes in a patient's condition and take appropriate actions.
- Provide clinical supervision to Occupational Therapy Assistants in accordance with state licensure and care delivery standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned to meet departmental needs.
Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure
- Occupational Therapist License from the North Dakota State Board of Occupational Therapy (OTR/L).
- Certification from the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).
- Current Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA).
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in inpatient and/or outpatient settings is required.
