Job Summary
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) Technician to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be responsible for accurately locating, mapping, and documenting underground utilities to support construction, infrastructure development, and land development projects. Your expertise will help prevent costly utility damages, ensure safety on construction sites, and facilitate efficient project planning. Responsibilities
- Perform utility locating and mapping using advanced equipment such as ground-penetrating radar (GPR), electromagnetic locators, and other detection tools.
- Interpret blueprints, construction drawings, and land survey data to identify underground utilities and infrastructure.
- Conduct field surveys on construction sites, ensuring accurate documentation of utility locations and depths.
- Operate heavy machinery including backhoes and forklifts to assist with excavation or site preparation tasks as needed.
- Assist with land surveying activities to establish precise reference points for utility placement and project boundaries.
- Maintain detailed records of utility locations, field notes, and survey data for project documentation and future reference.
- Collaborate with construction teams, engineers, and project managers to ensure safe excavation practices and compliance with regulations.
Requirements
- Prior experience as a service technician or in a field service role related to utilities or construction is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of land surveying principles and experience with utility locating techniques is essential.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, construction plans, and technical drawings accurately.
- Hands-on experience operating backhoes, forklifts, cabling equipment, and other field machinery required for site work.
- Familiarity with construction site safety protocols and best practices for underground utility work.
- Strong attention to detail with excellent recordkeeping skills for documenting field activities.
- Valid certifications in utility locating or related fields are a plus; willingness to obtain necessary certifications is expected.
