Arlington High School is looking for an enthusiastic educator to join our team as a Special Educator for the 2026-27 School Year.

Job Goal: Social/Emotional Program Teacher

 

Responsible for planning instruction and curriculum modifications for special needs students that allow students to meet high standards and success in typical settings.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Provide direct instruction to students within a substantially separate therapeutic classroom setting designed to support students with significant social-emotional needs.
  2. Plan, adapt, and differentiate curriculum, instruction, and assessments to meet individual student learning needs, IEP goals, and social-emotional needs.
  3. Consult and collaborate with related service providers, counselors, social workers, administrators, families, and general education staff to support student success and access to the curriculum.
  4. Monitor student academic, behavioral, and social-emotional progress and use data to inform instruction and intervention planning.
  5. Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), including measurable goals, accommodations, modifications, and transition planning.
  6. Prepare progress reports and maintain required special education documentation.
  7. Organize and chair team meetings, IEP meetings, and other meetings as required.
  8. Administer assessments and contribute to evaluations, reevaluations, and educational reporting.
  9. Maintain ongoing communication with parents and guardians regarding student progress and program supports.
  10. Attend building-based meetings, learning team meetings, and professional development activities.
  11. Direct and supervise the work of teaching assistants and support staff within the program.
  12. Facilitate daily therapeutic and social-emotional learning activities focused on emotional regulation, healthy coping strategies, self-advocacy, executive functioning, interpersonal skills, and independent living skills.
  13. Implement behavioral intervention plans and therapeutic supports to promote student engagement, emotional well-being, and access to learning.
  14. Create and maintain a structured, supportive, and therapeutic classroom environment that promotes student growth, independence, and successful participation in school.
  15. Support students in accessing appropriate inclusion opportunities and facilitate successful transitions between therapeutic and general education settings as appropriate.
  16. Perform other duties as assigned by the Building Principal and/or Special Education Administrator.

Arlington has a well established new teacher induction program with mentoring throughout the school year.

  

Salary and Benefits are consistent with the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the Arlington School Committee and the Arlington Education Association.  

 

The Salary Schedule is on our website.  Salary placement is based on Education and Experience.

Salary : $60,100 - $76,413
