ACS Maintenance Generalist
Minimum Qualifications and Training:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Guided by basic knowledge of building trades, (carpentry, painting, electrical, plumbing) mechanical repairs, plant maintenance methods, techniques and procedures
- Ability to utilize assorted power /hand tools and multi meters
- A minimum of 5 years of related experience
- Ability to communicate effectively in order to maintain good working relationships with various departments throughout the system
- Proven excellent customer service skills
- Prior experience in an educational setting preferred
- Reliable transportation required
- Working knowledge of electrical systems and the handling of hazardous chemicals
- Proficient in the use of computer applications including word-processing, spreadsheets and databases
- Ability to understand instructions and underlying principles of the Energy Management, HVAC and Refrigeration industry
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate or acceptable
Reports to: Executive Director of Operations
Goals: The Maintenance Generalist is responsible for performing a wide range of maintenance, repair, and operational duties to ensure that school district facilities are safe, functional, and well-maintained. This position supports the daily upkeep of buildings, grounds, and equipment across the district.
Performance Responsibilities:
- Performs a variety of duties in maintaining, repairing, and renovating plant and facilities
- Performs routine cleaning and landscape duties to maintain clean, neat, and attractive buildings and grounds
- Assists in making decisions on all normal and minor repairs. Reports major problems to the Executive Director of Operations
- Constructs, finishes, installs, maintains and repairs equipment, systems, and facilities related to any craft of combination of the same using power and hand tools and other necessary equipment
- Performs a variety of semi-skilled work in various crafts such as carpentry, welding, painting, masonry, electrical work, etc.
- Assists in cleaning, lubricating, servicing, repairing, installing of HVAC equipment, kitchen equipment, sprinkler systems, ice makers, electrical systems and other plant and specialty equipment
- Assists with typical maintenance tasks including but not limited to: repair/replace ceiling tiles, move equipment, assemble furniture and equipment, install signs, patch minor wall damage, paint, replace filters in air handlers, electrical replacements (lamps, ballasts, cord ends, switches), install cove base, install hand rail and shelving, etc.
- Identifies system failures and troubleshoots equipment to restore to operation or contain problem
- Maintains shops, mechanical spaces, faculty and staff areas as assigned in a clean safe manner
- Completes preventive maintenance work orders, tests and inspections as assigned
- Maintains logs and performs rounds as required or assigned
- Makes recommendations for modification or improvement of preventative maintenance system
- Operates motor vehicles
- Performs related and other departmental duties as required
- Will be required to assist maintenance staff as needed on all Construction, HVAC, Plumbing and Electrical projects at any facility in the Arlington Community School District
- Utilizes current software to retrieve and follow up on and complete work requests for maintenance for needed repairs
- Assists with the maintenance of inventory and necessary supplies and equipment as needed
- Interacts with Fire Marshal, OSHA Inspectors and Risk Manager to ensure that all safety items related to facilities are in compliance with local, state and federal regulations
- Adjusts and arranges furniture and equipment; sets up various areas for special events, meetings and other school activities
- Locates and operates all emergency shutoff valves, switches or controls for electrical, gas and water systems in the event of an emergency
- Assists Executive Director of Operations with ensuring that outside organizations renting the facilities are abiding by the rules and regulations stated in the rental agreement and if not, reports any incidents to the appropriate personnel
- Serves as a school plant manager as needed when school plant managers are on vacation, medical leave or other extended absences
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Operations or Superintendent or Designee
Working Conditions:
Exposure to the following situations may vary based on circumstances and factors that may not be predictable.
- Office-based with regular site visits to schools and operational facilities
- Occasional evening and weekend work required for meetings, emergencies, or project oversight
- Indoors and outdoors in various weather and environmental conditions
- On-call availability for emergencies
- Consistent and prompt attendance is imperative for this role

Salary: Salary range based on similar/like experience: $59,957 - $64,900
The Maintenance Generalist position is a 12-month support/classified position. This position does not follow the traditional instructional/student calendar for a school year. Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions determined by the Human Resources Department.
