We are seeking a dedicated and adaptable Substitute School Nurse to provide essential health services across our educational facilities. Duties
- Respond promptly to student health concerns, providing first aid and emergency care as required.
- Conduct comprehensive student assessments, including vital signs, physical examinations, and health history reviews.
- Administer medications, injections, and treatments following prescribed protocols while maintaining accurate medical documentation.
- Manage medical records in electronic health record (EHR) systems, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations and confidentiality standards.
- Perform venipuncture, IV insertions, and other invasive procedures with precision and care.
- Monitor and record vital signs, physiological responses, and other relevant health data during student visits.
- Collaborate with school staff to develop individualized health plans for students with chronic or acute conditions such as allergies or infectious diseases.
- Maintain a clean, safe environment by adhering to infection control protocols and safety procedures.
- Communicate effectively with parents, guardians, healthcare providers, and school personnel regarding student health status and care plans.
- Ensure compliance with all state and federal regulations related to school health services and nursing practices.
Experience
Candidates should bring a robust background in diverse healthcare settings including hospital medicine, emergency medicine, Level I Trauma Centers, PICU (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit), outpatient clinics, urgent care centers, or medical-surgical units. Experience working in Level II trauma centers or with infectious disease care is highly valued. Prior school nursing experience is preferred but not mandatory; however, familiarity with pediatric physiology, anatomy knowledge, patient assessment techniques, and medical terminology is essential. Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in EMR/EHR systems, basic life support (BLS), IV insertion skills, venipuncture, medication administration, and medical documentation practices. Additional desirable experience includes post-acute care settings, outpatient clinics, Geriatrics care, OR (Operating Room) experience, urgent care environments, inpatient units, or sub-acute care settings. Candidates should possess strong communication skills for effective collaboration within multidisciplinary teams and have a thorough understanding of HIPAA regulations to protect patient privacy.
