What are the responsibilities and job description for the Office Assistant/Receptionist position at Arkansas Valley Regional Medical Center?
Job Summary:
- Provides indirect patient care in the office/clinic setting.
- Checks patient insurance eligibility and collects copay when applicable
- Manages cash drawer for office
- Manages flow of information into the clinic by delegating tasks through the EMR
- Greets and registers patients
- Verifies patient demographic and insurance information
- Performs clerical duties
- Meets and communication needs of the patient/family, office/clinic staff and the medical staff
- Participates in performance improvement activities
- Verifies patient demographic, employment and insurance information
- Explains billing policies, collects co-payments, refers patients without insurance to the office/clinic manager
- Schedules new and return appointments; explains registration process and gives directions to new patients; may explain procedures preparation to patients
- Answers the telephone in a professional and courteous manner; takes messages; directs calls to appropriate staff members
- Photocopies patient schedule sheets each day, scans in patient information as needed, prepares new patient forms for new patients
- Maintains daily patient log
- Collections payments, writes receipts, writes payments in ledger, balances petty cash, deposits cash bag in safe at EOD
- Maintains good working relationship with office/clinic staff members and physicians
- Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- One year experience in office setting or hospital setting.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Experience with billing and insurance preferred.
