What are the responsibilities and job description for the Large Animal Veterinary Assistant position at Ark Veterinary Services LLC?
- Assist veterinarians with large animal and livestock patients including cattle, horses, goats, sheep, pigs, and other farm animals.
- This is a physically demanding, outdoor position requiring work in hot, humid, cold, rainy, muddy, dusty, and otherwise challenging conditions.
- Must be comfortable working outside for extended periods, regardless of weather, and traveling to farms and rural properties.
- Perform significant manual labor, including lifting, carrying, restraining animals, moving equipment, cleaning, loading/unloading supplies, and setting up field procedures.
- Safely handle and restrain large animals; prior hands-on livestock, equine, farm, or veterinary experience is strongly preferred.
- Assist with veterinary procedures including vaccinations, blood draws, sample collection, wound care, medications, anesthesia/surgical assistance, and diagnostic procedures as trained.
- Clean, disinfect, organize, and restock veterinary equipment, vehicles, and field supplies; maintain a high standard of cleanliness and biosecurity.
- Must be comfortable getting dirty and working around manure, bodily fluids, mud, dust, livestock odors, and physically unpredictable animals.
- Must be dependable, physically capable, safety-conscious, willing to learn, and able to work independently in a fast-paced mobile veterinary environment.
- This is NOT an indoor-only veterinary job. Applicants who do not have animal experience or who are unwilling to perform outdoor physical labor should not apply.
*Licensed veterinary technicians (LVT), Registered veterinary technicians (RVT), or technicians with additional certifications can make over $20.00/ hours*
Pay: $15.00 - $20.00 per hour
Expected hours: 25.0 – 45.0 per week
