Performs a variety of administrative/accounting, skilled or technical work of a specialized nature and provides first level supervision of office staff at assigned PTVC campus. Provides customer service pertaining to VA educational benefits to the university community including current and prospective veteran students, dependents, faculty and staff. Certifies enrollments for students with VA educational benefits in compliance with criteria outlined in the VA School Certifying Official (SCO) Handbook. Maintains working knowledge of ASU enrollment guidelines by following the university's academic calendar and student handbook.

Essential Duties
- Reports enrollment certifications to the VA to include drops, withdrawals, tuition charges, graduations, and disqualifications.
- Ensures all students utilizing VA education benefits maintain good standing, based on VA compliance criteria.
- Provides direct hiring, training, scheduling, and supervision of both new School Certifying Officials and VA work studies at assigned campuses.
- Individuals are expected to lead by example with firsthand knowledge of all areas of expertise required to include VA education benefit requirements and common military verbiage.
- Models excellence in customer service through multiple channels in an effort to encourage communication, retention, and degree completion.
- Provides mentorship and training to campus teams when necessary.
- Champions teamwork and collaboration towards essential objectives.
- Fosters an environment of open, cordial and candid communication throughout the team.
- Utilizes VA policies, office/ASU policies and procedures and FERPA guidelines in responding verbally or in writing to inquiries from students regarding their VA benefits.
- Individuals must be skilled in effective communication and conflict resolution; both verbally and in writing to inquiries, complaints, or problems with students, the VA, and ASU staff.
- Recommends, coordinates and implements new or revised department policies and procedures affecting assigned functions; updates policy/procedure manual.
- Cross-trains activities and coordinates with campus teams to meet variable peak processing demands.
- Receives membership and training opportunities with professional organizations that exist for veteran certifying officials.
- Required to occasionally travel to other campuses, events and conferences.
- Supplies VA application instructions, and informs student of documentation needed for file
- Performs a cross check of student billing information to be certified to ensure tuition/fee certification complies with VA regulations
- Certifies enrollments through Enrollment Manager. Keeps VA informed of veteran enrollment status as well as other eligible persons receiving benefits.
- Certifies enrollments in accordance with Arizona State University’s Yellow Ribbon program.
- Works with Chapter 31 Vocational Rehabilitation Counselors for appropriate authorization documentation.
- Assists students who are experiencing issues regarding payment or problems regarding entitlement.
- Remains current on matters pertaining to VA rules, benefits, and additions to SCO handbook.
- Maintains records of VA students including 22-1999, course schedules, and supporting VA documentation.
- Upon notification of a compliance visit from Education Liaison Representative - assembles requested files, billing information, and transcripts for audit.
- Acquire knowledge of principles, practices and procedures of maintaining VA compliance in enrollment certification Knowledge of basic project management with the ability to plan and meet deadlines
- Develop knowledge and skill in using DARS, Enrollment Manager, and PeopleSoft to process and transmit enrollment information for veteran/dependent students to the Veterans Affairs Regional Processing Office
- Process high volumes of daily VA enrollment certifications to maintain the VA’s timing and compliance standards
- Skill in supervision to establish and maintain effective working relationships and a positive, productive office environment
- Skill in effective communication Foster positive customer service experiences for ASU’s veteran/dependent students
- Skill in using MS Office, PeopleSoft, Salesforce, and the Enrollment Manager
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND three (3) years of related experience; OR, Seven (7) years of related experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

- Evidence of VA Certifying Official experience in high volume schools

Working Environment
- Must have ability to travel across and between various campus sites.
- Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse; required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work.
- Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds.
- Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
- May be required to perform tasks in the field within and/or across University campuses.
- Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions.
