Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site Postdoctoral Researcher position based in Mesa, AZ, starting Summer/Fall 2026. The researcher will lead a two-year project (with the potential for extension) focused on developing a multiphysics-resolved digital twin for metal additive manufacturing, integrating AI-accelerated physics-based models and real-time sensor data within an agentic framework for defect detection, prediction, and closed-loop process control. The project is funded through the NSF Center for Digital Twins in Manufacturing, a collaborative center between the University of Michigan and Arizona State University, with a clear commercialization pathway through industry advisory board members including the US Army, Honeywell, Analog Devices (ADI), and Intel. Additional responsibilities include contributing to scholarly publications, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, presenting findings at conferences, mentoring graduate and undergraduate students, and supporting grant proposal development.
Qualifications
- Proven track record of high-quality research and publications in one or more of the following: computational mechanics, machine learning, or additive manufacturing
- Proficiency in scientific writing, data analysis, and preparation of scholarly publications
- Experience collaborating in interdisciplinary research teams and effectively communicating findings
- Proven ability to mentor students and contribute to academic success
- Demonstrated excellence in presenting research at conferences and professional meetings
- Passion for translating fundamental research into real-world impact, with interest in industrial deployment and commercialization
- Ability to work on-site in Mesa, AZ, and meet project deadlines both collaboratively and independently
- A PhD in a relevant field is required
- Familiarity with grant writing and securing research funding is a strong advantage
- Commitment to upholding diversity, equity, and inclusion principles in research and team collaboration
