Assistant Director of Development, ASU Art Museum

The Assistant Director of Development (ADOD) will report to the Director of Development (DoD) of the Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts (HIDA). In this role the ADOD will collaborate closely with the senior leadership of the ASU Art Museum (ASUAM) to support and advance the museum's vision and programs. In partnership with the DoD, The ADOD will be responsible for developing and executing fundraising initiatives and programs aimed at achieving the organization's three-year strategic goals and ten-year plan.
The principal activity of the ADOD is to be externally focused, with responsibility for engaging a portfolio of individuals, corporations, and foundations that have a potential affinity with ASU Art Museum. The ADOD's effectiveness will be evaluated on the ability to achieve financial goals and contact metrics consistent with the programs and prospects assigned.
What you'll do :
- Collaborates with the DoD in the development and execution of strategic fundraising and engagement efforts for the ASUAM by designing, implementing, evaluating and refining development activities to drive donor retention, reactivation, acquisition, and pipeline growth
- Actively engages donors, alumni, faculty, staff, and students managing a personal gift / prospect portfolio with a focus on securing gifts at or above the $25,000 level in accordance with performance metrics
- Works with development team and ASUAM leadership to assist in the implementation and coordination of special fundraising and engagement opportunities by identifying, cultivating and soliciting annual, major and planned gifts
- Guided by the direction and scope of a prospect's interest, collaborates with ASUAM curators, directors, and unit-based and foundation-based fundraisers to leverage the maximum philanthropic potential of a prospect
- Develops and submits written proposals, budgets, and other collateral materials as needed for securing philanthropic investments
- Depending on area(s) of assignment, collaborates with and coordinates the efforts of various ASU offices and functions to advance prospect and donor strategies (i.e., alumni engagement, annual giving, corporate and foundation relations, development, donor relations, estate and gift planning, financial services, research and prospect management, etc.)
- Responsible for the management, stewardship and solicitation of gifts for ASUAM's advisory councils including the Creative Impact Board, Director's Council, Innovation Council, and Black Arts and Culture Council
- Collaborate with ASU Art Museum staff and leadership to plan, coordinate, and execute VIP special events, ensuring seamless operations and an exceptional experience for high-profile guests
- Uses the ASUF prospect management and tracking system (i.e., Salesforce,) to record and coordinate contacts and proposals
- Assumes responsibility for core fundraising metrics including face-to-face visits with prospects, identification of new prospects, growth in cumulative giving from the prospect portfolio, major gift proposals submitted, dollars raised
- Ensures proper stewardship and recognition of donors in portfolio
- Assists development team with campaign planning and implementation
- Participates as a member of the ASUF development team and serve as a resource to development colleagues regarding fundraising opportunities for ASUAM
- Establishes strong working relationships with deans, chairs, directors, curators, and faculty members of assigned unit(s)
- May train and supervise staff and student employees, interns, and / or volunteers performing related work; may oversee and / or participate in the recruitment, organization, and training of fundraising volunteers, as appropriate to the area of operation
