What are the responsibilities and job description for the System Operator I position at Arizona G&T Cooperatives?
Arizona G&T Cooperatives is seeking candidates for the position of System Operator I in Benson, AZ. This position will be responsible for acquiring the necessary job skills to perform real-time operations of Bulk Power Systems (BPS) performing real-time actions during normal and emergency conditions to ensure the stable and reliable operation of the Bulk Electric System (BES). A System Operator I will be required, within 9 months, to obtain a NERC Certification (BT or RC) and within an additional 6 months to complete AEPCO/NERC Qualification Card.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:
- Acquire the knowledge to take prompt and appropriate actions to maintain strict compliance with NERC/WECC Reliability Standards for system operations.
- Acquire knowledge of all AEPCO operating procedures & reliability-related tasks under normal and emergency conditions.
- To learn normal transmission and distribution switching.
- Acquire Knowledge to monitor the power system for voltage control, power factor, and equipment loading.
- Acquire knowledge to maintain system frequency and system stability.
- Acquire knowledge to respond to Reserve Sharing Group (RSG) emergencies according to the RSG policies and procedures.
- Acquire knowledge to monitor, assess, and approve E-tags within the OATI application associated with the AEPCO transmission system.
- Become familiar with AEPCO and Metropolitan Water District transmission systems and how they intertie with neighboring systems.
Minimum requirements are a High School Diploma or equivalent is required. Bachelor's Degree in applicable field is preferred. Four years of prior work experience in one of the following areas or a combination of the following areas:
- Electric utility operations
- Technical profession in the utilities field
- Related engineering position
Successful candidates should also have High level of critical thinking skills, high level of multi-tasking abilities, above average mathematical aptitude, high level of communication skills including 3-part communications, and reasonable mechanical aptitude. Candidates must have the ability to pass 7-Year background check.
Salary : $5,977 - $7,472
