We are seeking an ambitious, friendly, positive, and compassionate Specialty Drug Procurement Specialist to join our team.

The role of the Specialty Drug Procurement Specialist is to support the infusion and specialty medication program by coordinating patient treatment queues, forecasting medication demand, and procuring specialty drugs in alignment with scheduled treatments and authorized therapy plans.

The position also supports inventory integrity across the organization’s infusion network by periodically conducting cycle counts of specialty medications and infusion inventory across all Arizona infusion sites. This includes verifying on-hand medication quantities, identifying discrepancies, and coordinating with the dispensary and finance teams to ensure accurate inventory records across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Review scheduled infusion patients and coordinate treatment queues to determine upcoming medication demand.
  • Verify that required therapy plans and authorizations are in place prior to initiating medication procurement.
  • Forecast specialty medication needs based on patient schedules and provider treatment plans.
  • Coordinate with the dispensary team to ensure medications are procured and available prior to infusion appointments.
  • Initiate purchasing requests for specialty medications through approved vendors and procurement processes.
  • Monitor inventory levels of specialty medications used in infusion suites.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate medication inventory records within the inventory platform.
  • Work collaboratively with the Dispensary Specialist to ensure medications are received, logged, and stored appropriately.
  • Track medication availability and coordinate with clinical teams to avoid treatment delays.
  • Support cost-conscious medication procurement by minimizing unnecessary inventory accumulation and medication waste.
  • Perform periodic cycle counts of specialty medications and infusion drug inventory across all Arizona infusion locations.
  • Travel to infusion sites as needed to verify inventory levels and reconcile discrepancies between physical counts and inventory systems.
  • Collaborate with site managers, nurses, and dispensary staff to ensure accurate inventory tracking across the infusion network.
  • Document cycle count results and report discrepancies to the Pharmacy Operations Manager for resolution.
  • Support organization-wide inventory accuracy and compliance with medication storage and tracking standards.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

Essential

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through a nationally recognized certification.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate medication and inventory records.
  • Ability to coordinate and prioritize workloads in a fast-paced clinical environment involving high-cost specialty medications.
  • Strong computer skills and ability to work within multiple healthcare systems and inventory platforms.
  • Ability to review patient infusion schedules and coordinate medication procurement accordingly.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with nursing teams, site managers, and pharmacy staff.
  • Ability to travel periodically to infusion locations to perform inventory cycle counts and reconcile inventory discrepancies.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with all organizational policies and healthcare regulations.

Desirable

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Pharmacy Technology, Business, Supply Chain, or a related field is highly preferred.
  • Experience working in a specialty pharmacy, infusion clinic, or rheumatology clinic environment.
  • Familiarity with specialty biologic medications.
  • Experience with inventory management, purchasing, or medical supply procurement.
  • Familiarity with healthcare systems.
  • Experience supporting inventory control across multiple infusion locations.
