What are the responsibilities and job description for the Tower Technician - II position at Aristotle Unified Communications?
- Observes and practices all tower climbing safety rules and best practices and reports
- Climbs various heights on multiple type structures.
- Performs installation of antennas, mounts, cable ladders, cable, etc.
- Assists with and Preforms testing communications equipment on site, AUC Lab, or other misc field conditions.
- Participates in new tower construction and existing tower maintenance.
- Assists in trouble shooting a variety of electronic components from Broadband/cell/microwave sites, including lighting systems.
- Maintains a professional working attitude with co-workers and customers.
- Continues to engage in industry education and knowledge on an ongoing basis.
- Upholds quality workmanship surpassing industry standards.
- Learns and comprehends OSHA laws and also industry practice standards.
- Must be willing to travel and be able to work within a non-structured schedule, i.e., long hours, weekends, on call, etc.
- May be required to work in adverse weather conditions, including rain, heat, cold, wind.
- Frequently required to stand, walk, stoop, sit, and climb ladders and communication towers and work in an elevated position that may be a maximum of 500 feet with typical heights of less than 150 feet.
- A tower tech must lift, carry, and maneuver heavy or awkward objects weighing 50lbs or more.
- Travels daily within the Company’s geographical footprint and may be required to outside of AUC’s normal work area. Travel time can be anywhere from one day to 2 weeks at a time, with appropriate breaks. All expenses are reimbursed in accordance with the Employee Handbook.
- A tower tech is required to use hand and power tools effectively and efficiently.
- Reads and observes rules established by AUC as described by the Employee Handbook.
Required Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:
- Reliable transportation to and from office location and holds and maintains an Arkansas State issued current and valid driver's license.
- Self-Motivated and able to learn efficiently
- Team oriented
- General tower and fall protection knowledge and ability to utilize 100% tie off techniques at all times
- Electrical and electronic systems knowledge to include new and repair installations.
Preferred Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:
- Mechanically inclined.
- Computer skills.
- Electrical/electronic skills may be acquired by OJT for applicants lacking this knowledge.
- Basic Rigging training is a plus but can be AUC certified.
Job Related Certifications (can be certified by company and OJT):
- OSHA 10 or 30
- Qualified Climber (Level I)
- Competent Climber (Level II)
- First Aid/CPR
- Basic Rigging
- Basic knowledge and understanding of DOT driver qualifications
- RF awareness training
- Man lift / Man basket training
- Capstan winch training
High school graduate or GED. Work experience of 4-years in lieu of HS graduation. Computer knowledgeable with Microsoft Office Suite and Windows 10 or 11 work experience.
